The first time was the charm for Kailyn Lowry and her fiancé Elijah Scott!
In 2022, the 32-year-old reality star shocked fans when she decided to quit Teen Mom 2 after 11 years. At the time, she explained to E! News that she wanted to focus on her “self-growth” and her then-four children and felt the MTV show ultimately “didn’t feel like the show aligned with the goals” she had for herself anymore.
However, it turns out there was a lot more to the story behind her decision to leave the series! And no, it was not just because of her nasty feud with nemesis Briana DeJesus. She exited Teen Mom 2 after her new man got her pregnant with her fifth child, son Rio, the first time they ever had sex! WHAT! While on Trisha Paytas’ Just Trish podcast last Thursday, Kailyn explained:
“Yeah, I left in 2022 when I got pregnant with my fifth son because I was like, ‘I can’t, we’re not doing this.’”

According to the television personality, she and Elijah “did not plan to get pregnant.” Their relationship was new, so having kids — more in Kailyn’s case — was not something they wanted together yet! However, fate had other plans! Kailyn said:
“It was the first time I slept with him. And we had just developed a relationship. So, I was like, ‘This is just a lot for one person.’”
Damn! However, there won’t be any happy accidents again in the near future. After the couple had their twins, she got her tubes tied while he got a vasectomy. Obviously, Kailyn and Elijah have other options, like adoption, available to them if they want to expand their family. But with seven children, they already have a full house and a lot to juggle! So, for now, they are DONE having kids! Back in the show…
It was more than just her pregnancy influencing her decision to leave Teen Mom, though. The Coffee Convos host noted:
“There was a lot of reasons. Elijah had not been on TV. My podcast became super successful. I was making more money on the podcast than I was on Teen Mom.”
Ultimately, Kailyn said she “couldn’t justify the stress I was going through” on the show to stay so she quit:
“I felt like I would give them this laundry list of things that I wanted to film, but they only wanted to talk about the relationships that I had with my kids’ dads. That’s old and tired, right? I have other drama, I can give you drama, I’ll do whatever you want, but let’s talk about it.”
And boy, did she have some “drama” back then, especially with Briana! Not to mention that her navigating her last three pregnancies with Elijah would have made for some inneresting TV. MTV unfortunately lost out on a great reality star. But hey, she had to do what’s best for her and her family in the end. Watch the podcast episode (below):
