Kristin Cavallari's Hockey Player Ex Breaks His Silence On Their Brief Romance -- Reveals How They Met & More!

Kristin Cavallari NHL player ex speaks out about romance

Kristin Cavallari’s ex is speaking out about their short-lived relationship for the first time!

In case you missed it, the former reality star finally revealed the identity of the mystery retired athlete she started seeing late last year — and then broke up with — on a new episode of her podcast Let’s Be Honest this week. Who was he? Fans previously guessed Kristin dated former professional hockey player Nate Thompson, and they were correct!

On Tuesday’s podcast, Kristin shared that she had a “mostly long distance” relationship with Nate, though he “came and stayed with [her] for New Year’s.” This had been “one of the deeper relationships” she had ever, even though they did not last long, and they “told each other f**king everything.” However, having such a deep connection wasn’t enough for Kristin! She explained something was “missing” from the relationship at the end of the day and caused the breakup — chemistry:

“I need in the beginning to want to rip your f**king clothes off. I need compatibility and chemistry. I understand that what I’m searching for is rare. … I’m not gonna settle for anything less than exactly what I want.”

Ultimately, things didn’t work out. Yet Kristin had nothing but great things to say about Nate, so they seemingly ended on good terms! Or did they? Does the former athlete feel the same way about how things went down?

The same day, Nate broke his silence in a new episode of his Energy Line podcast, saying he knew Kristin would talk about their romance one day:

“I knew it was only a matter of time before things became public—that’s her world, that’s what she does. Her podcast, obviously, as you know, is pretty big, and she talks about her relationships, so I knew it was probably gonna come out eventually.”

OK, he doesn’t seem too upset about it! It’s a good sign! And things get better! Despite their relationship ending, Nate gushed about Kristin, too! The former Boston Bruins player expressed that he had “nothing bad to say” about the Uncommon James founder, calling her “a cool person” and “great mom.” He added:

“We had a good time. Life is gonna life and it just didn’t work out.”

Well, we know why things ended. But how did the romance start? According to Nate, he met Kristin “through Instagram” as the platform showed them that they “had a mutual friend” and decided to shoot his shot. And it obviously worked! He recalled:

“I may have reached out, and next thing you know, I have her number, and we’re chatting. And then I’m in Nashville a couple times, and that’s kinda how it happened.”

Nate also noted that his cousin lives near Kristin, so it was a “six degrees of separation” since they “knew a lot of the same people.” Of course, he also had heard about Kristin long ago through her work on television! He admitted he “watched a little bit of Laguna Beach” but not a lot of The Hills, so he “didn’t know anything up to date,” which he felt was “probably good.” He continued:

“I think every guy thinks Kristin Cavallari is hot, for the most part. She is. She’s a very good-looking girl.”

But beyond her appearance, Nate shared that they “had a lot in common,” especially with them both being single parents. He echoed similar comments made by Kristin, saying:

“Obviously, we don’t live in the same city, so that dynamic changed things. I went there a couple times and saw her. I was with her for New Year’s. We told each other a lot of things in a short amount of time, and we were pretty open and honest about a lot of stuff.”

Nate said they “had a connection in the short time that we talked or hung out” — but “wouldn’t have called her my girlfriend.” Ahhh… So he feels this was more of a fling than an actual relationship? Does Kristin feel the same way? Ultimately, Nate believed they “kinda hit it off,” but “things didn’t work out.” But as he mentioned before, he has only positive things to say about Kristin. He reiterated that she is a “really good person” and “very genuine,” adding:

“She hustles. She does her thing, so I got a lot of respect for her and how she handles herself with everything she has to deal with being in the limelight.”

At least these two can speak so highly of each other following the split! We can’t say that happens with all of Kristin’s exes! Just ask Jay Cutler or Jeff Dye!
