In the darkest moments, sometimes humans really show up for each other in a beautiful way. That’s exactly what happened after the horrific LaGuardia plane crash.
If you missed it, while landing in New York City on Sunday night, an Air Canada plane struck a Port Authority fire truck, killing both pilots. Of the 72 passengers, 41 were injured, as well as both people in the fire engine. So, so awful.
Now, one young passenger is speaking out about the devastating scene inside the plane. 22-year-old Jack Cabot spoke to the New York Post on Tuesday, revealing there was “blood everywhere” after impact, including on the passenger next to him, who injured their face and had blood gushing from their nose.

He said the flight felt ordinary until a “crazy 12 seconds” when they crashed:
“It felt like the landing was immediately off. … There was an incredibly loud bang. It was a really, really hard landing.”
He noted:
“I still feel like I was one of the lucky ones. There were other people in a lot of pain.”
And while it was unimaginably scary and stressful, it showed a bright side in humanity. He recalled:
“Some people really stepped up in that moment, they organized themselves as a group.”
Everyone started pitching in to help those in need, he detailed:
“People were sharing coats. One person used a COVID mask to wipe blood off another person’s face.”
Jack was in seat 18A, which was located in the middle of the plane near the left wing. It ultimately took about two hours for everyone to deplane, and those in the front required a lot of help getting free as they were badly stuck due to the impact. One of the individuals hurt was a flight attendant who was sent flying 300 feet out of the plane and was found on the ground still strapped to her jump seat. OMG!
Jack said before the crash that flight attendant gave him a beer:
“It led to my new motto: ‘Sit in the middle of the plane and have a beer.’”
There was also a young girl, who was riding as an unaccompanied minor for the first time, who was comforted by an older British woman after the flight crashed and throughout the whole ordeal. So glad someone looked out for her!
The passenger expressed:
“There’s always some humanity. Always people trying their best.”
At the time of the interview, Jack was waiting to see if he had a concussion and had suffered whiplash as a result of the crash. He said:
“I’m feeling particularly rattled. It’s not every day you get into a plane crash.
But he wasn’t going to let it stop him. When asked when he’d consider flying again after this, he said:
“As soon as I can. I don’t want to let this get in the way of my life.”
Such a scary situation for all involved. You can hear more from the experience (below):
