Mayor Pete Makes It Official — Buttigieg Joins The Race For The 2020 Democrat Presidential Bid
Add South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg‘s name to the rolls — he’s officially running for President in 2020 as yet another promising young candidate in a powerful, but crowded, field of Democrats.
The young Mayor made his announcement on Sunday afternoon during a campaign rally in South Bend, where he formally indicated that he is going to make a run for the White House — and against President Donald Trump — in this campaign cycle. You can see it all go down in the video recapturing the livestreamed speech (above)!!!!
It’s a very solid and well-spoken speech, and one that may push Pete yet further up in the polls over the next few days. Memorable with powerful lines and a strong delivery from the popular young Mayor… he doesn’t quite have Barack Obama‘s speech-giving ability, but the guy ain’t far off, OK?!
Now, though, Mayor Pete joins what seems like a million other Democrats running for the position… and some of ’em are sure not be push-overs, flanked by decades of high-level political experience and serious campaign funds to boot.
Buttigieg makes for a very interesting candidate; he’s a war veteran, a gay man, and the successful mayor of a mid-sized Midwestern American city with a very strong track record on public policy and getting things done with City Hall. And yet, he’s still very young, and lacks some of the bona fides — and big time dollars — that might come with a Governor, a Senator, or a sitting member of Congress running here instead.
Nevertheless, even as one of the younger contenders out there in a very crowded and mish-mashed field of candidates, Buttigieg has gained a TON of popularity recently because he’s just so damn likable! We’ve taken to him the last few weeks and he’s getting quite a bit of pop culture traction with his policies, middle America humility, and progressive ideals. He seems to check every box that you’d want in a President (especially one to follow a moron like Trump), but does Buttigieg have what it takes to really make it happen?
It’s interesting… he’s been going on quite the media tour recently to ramp up his name recognition and prepare for this moment; just the other day, Buttigieg spoke to a media outlet about how he’d deal with any anti-gay or anti-LGBT rhetoric from the Trump camp on the campaign trail.
What do U think, Perezcious readers?! Is this Mayor Pete’s moment?? Can he capture the interest of the American people?? Or will he fade back into obscurity after a few weeks leading the polls in the primaries?! Sound OFF with all your opinions in the comments (below)…
