Meryl Streep nearly got trapped in her home amid the devastating LA fires… So she had to get creative to save her skin!
The legendary actress’ nephew Abe Streep told his aunt’s harrowing escape story during an interview with New York Magazine published on Tuesday — and it’s pretty INSANE. And it just makes you realize what a total badass the Devil Wears Prada star is!

According to Abe, Meryl received word of an evacuation order on January 8, but when she went to head out, she noticed her driveway — the “only exit” — was obstructed:
“Evacuation mandates were sent across the city. My aunt Meryl Streep received an order to evacuate on January 8, but when she tried to leave, she discovered that a large tree had fallen over in her driveway, blocking her only exit.”
OMG… Imagine the sheer panic that must have taken over in that moment… A deadly fire is closing in by the second and your only way out is blocked! So terrifying! But it sounds like instead of panicking, Meryl actually went into survivor mode. And she carved her own way out:
“Determined to make it out, she borrowed wire cutters from a neighbor, cut a car-size hole in the fence she shared with the neighbors on the other side, and drove through their yard to escape.”
Holy s**t! And she did all that at 75 years old! What a badass! We wonder if she just imagined she was playing a badass. She’s so talented.
In all seriousness, we’re so happy the living legend made it out safely. Our hearts remain with all those affected by the devastating fires…
