Nicki Minaj‘s retirement announcement yesterday was a huge surprise — and not just to us, but to those closest to her, too!
Sources near the rapper are quick to point out now that based on her recent actions — like, booking studio time until next month — it “absolutely doesn’t add up” she’d announce her retirement so abruptly on Twitter like she did Thursday.

According to sources who spoke with TMZ about matter, Nicki’s recent actions actually point to the exact opposite of retirement; the No Frauds singer has reportedly been busy in the studio working on new music as recently as the last few weeks! So if the retirement announcement seemed as sudden to y’all as it did to us… well, yeah, apparently it was equally as immediate for Nicki herself!
But there’s something more at play here, because as we’re learning on Friday morning, the Trinidad and Tobago native simply has put in too much work making new tunes in the last few months to give it all up and walk away now — no matter how bad she may want a family with controversial new man Kenneth Petty.
It’s still up in the air whether Nicki will walk away from the game now, or at some point soon, as she considers settling down with Petty. But if you look at all the evidence around the MEGATRON rapper, you’re at least left somewhat optimistic she’s not finished… yet.

The Music Has Already Been Made
Per TMZ, the pink princess reportedly “made plans to record with several artists” just in the past few DAYS!!! Those artists must’ve been shocked when she up and quit the game on Twitter Thursday morning, leaving future work on the table and pulling out the rug from under a bunch of unnamed talent.
Or… she lined up all that upcoming work because she’s still planning to get it in, “retirement” or not, even despite her initial tweet!

But it isn’t only future work that the 36-year-old is lining up, either. According to insiders, the rapper “has a lot of songs already in the can” along with all the studio time she has booked up until October… so it’s clear she’s been putting in a lot of work on new music! Retirement or not, wouldn’t she at least want to release all that stuff for her fans???
We know we’re really interested to see which artists she’s scheduled to work with, and who she may have already collaborated alongside. Give us the music, girl!!!!
“The Tweet Was Abrupt”
After thinking about it for the better part of the day on Thursday, Minaj tweeted again late in the evening, responding to a despondent fan who was sad about her apparent retirement from music.
As you can see (below), Nicki herself appears to have a clear head in more openly discussing how her initial tweet was “abrupt” and “insensitive” to the fans:

The upcoming Queen Radio show she does should be an interesting one, if Nick’s going to explain some of the motives and inner-workings behind her apparent career decision.

The Trolls Are Winning…
The sudden decision to retire may have a lot of root causes, but one of the main issues ongoing in Nicki’s life is reportedly the presence of internet trolls. Apparently, she’s “growing increasingly fed up” with them after being harassed endlessly in the past few months, and she may have reached her breaking point this week — hence, the decision to give it all up.
On the trolls’ menu? Unsurprisingly, it’s her relationship with controversial fiancé Petty that’s landed her in hot water on social media — no shock considering his sketchy past. But it’s also other stuff, too… like people constantly accusing her of not writing her own songs, or those openly questioning her hip-hop legacy and body of work.

Sure, she’s a celeb, and you’d think she might be above it all, but the teasing gets old quick — we can at least understand some of the pushback on her part there.
The good news, though, is insiders closest to Nicki think she simply needs a little bit of time away from social media and the public altogether. Rather than a retirement, sources say, a break should do her good, after which she can “chill and reevaluate” her way back into the studio.

No, Nicki is NOT pregnant — yet.
So says an insider close to the rapper, at least. Even her family was wondering this week if she’s pregnant, and whether her decision to retire so suddenly was based on the fact that she was ready to raise her family away from the spotlight.
