In Maryvale, Arizona there’s an interesting problem: large packs of wild chihuahuas are running loose!
All it takes is a few unspayed stray dogs to blow up a wild pup population, and that’s just what happened in this Arizona town.
There are apparently so many packs of wild chihuahuas roaming around, often following larger stray dogs, that they’re causing serious issues.
Aside from pooping wherever they want, covering the town in doggy doo, the pups apparently even chase after kids!
Animal control agencies in the area have gotten an astounding 6,000 phone calls from residents repotting sightings of the tiny stray doggies.
Anyone who’s ever been around a chihuahua knows that they can tend to be pretty aggressive even though they’re super tiny.
So imagine a pack of ten chihuahuas all nipping at your heels at the same time!
The problem isn’t easily solved either. Residents call in chihuahua sightings but by the time animal control officers gets there, the pups have gone.
The best advice they have for residents?
“If at all possible, if you see a stray, if you can safely contain him in your yard and then call us, that makes a big difference.”
So basically if you can’t catch the dog yourself, there’s not much they can do for you.
They sound less like dog catchers, and more like a chihuahua removal service. We hope they find a solution to the stray problem that doesn’t involve killing the pups!
