Pokémon Go's Incredible Success Helps Score Green Light For First Ever Live-Action Pokémon Movie!

We choose you, Detective Pikachu!
Despite debuting way back in 1995, Pokémon is currently at the peak of its popularity thanks to Pokémon Go.
The Niantic augmented reality app already has more daily users than every other social media service, which perfectly exemplifies why we’re not shocked that a live-action Pok├â┬⌐mon movie is officially a go!
That’s right, nerds! Legendary Entertainment will be teaming up with The Pok├â┬⌐mon Company to create a feature-length adaptation of their newest video game, Detective Pikachu, with production starting as early as 2017.

While there’s no direct relation between Pok├â┬⌐mon Go and the new movie… it cannot be a coincidence that the project was announced just two weeks after the game’s American release and subsequent 25 percent jump in stock for Nintendo.
There’s no word on casting just yet… but we think it’s safe to say Danny DeVito is the clear choice to voice Pikachu, right?!
Plus, Universal will be handling the distribution rights for the fast-tracked film, so hopefully that means even more IRL Pokémon when Universal Studios eventually opens Nintendo Land!
Which of Ash’s adventures do U want to see continue the live-action franchise next??
