The woman who was just recruited to take on a new position as the head of communications for Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle has an interesting history… It’s so awkward we’re curious whether the Sussexes are even aware of it!!
According to a report first published by Axios on Friday, the Suits alum and her (formerly) royal husband have hired a woman named Meredith Maines to be their comms head and press guru. All well and good, right? After all, considering how high-profile the Archewell leads are — and how many so-called irons they’ve got in the fire with various Netflix gigs and other projects — they certainly need somebody to keep tabs on all their public relations matters.

Sure. Whatever. We get it. But the real story here is that Maines used to be (er, still is?) a HUUUUGE fan of Harry’s estranged brother Prince William, as well as his bride Princess Catherine!!
We know that because according to The Sun, back in 2011, Maines took to Twitter (which, of course, is now known as X) and posted an interesting about their wedding! On the day before those two got hitched, Maines wrote on the social media app that she was planning on watching “8 hours of Royal Wedding coverage” the next day.
Oh?!
Then, the day after the iconic wedding in another ages-old post, Maines followed up on that mention of her marathon viewing habits by pondering whether she had undergone “royal wedding over-indulgence … if there is such a thing.” Hmmm…
It gets even more interesting than that, too: per The Sun, Maines did NOT post any of the same gushing messages on her X account back in 2018 when it came time for Meg to get hitched to Harry in their own version of the royal marriage ceremony.
Womp, womp!
Obviously, it makes us super curious about Maines’ personal feelings towards the two competing fandoms within the royal realm, ya know?! Like, has she always been on #TeamWills and #TeamKate after those 2011 tweets?! Or did she think better of living in Will World long ago, and opted to switch her allegiances over to Meg and Harry — even if she never tweeted about it?? Regardless, she’s on the Montecito-based couple’s payroll now.

Meredith has quite the resume leading up to this point, too, BTW. According to her LinkedIn profile, she spent three years as the Head of Communications over at the streaming service Hulu, which is quite a gig. She’s also spent time with Lightspeed Venture Partners, as well as with BetterUp — which is a Silicon Valley startup that just so happens to employ Harry as its Chief Impact Officer! Connections, connections, connections!
In a comment shared with Axios and others, Maines praised Harry and Meghan in her announcement about joining their team:
“I’m honored to partner with Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, to highlight the amazing work they are doing through Archewell, their broader business portfolio, and nonprofit work. I’m excited to help them tell their story as entrepreneurs, builders and philanthropists while overseeing all communications for the couple and their ventures.”
Per multiple outlets, Maines will begin her role in that new gig next Monday. And based on our prior reporting, we have no doubt that she’ll have plenty to do right off the top!
