'Ex-Boyfriend' Confesses To Murdering Russian Instagram Influencer -- But Claims She Was Actually A High Priced Escort!

Russian Instagram Influencer Ekaterina Karaglanova Murder Ex-Boyfriend Confession

Barring some shocking last minute Law And Order-style twist, it looks like the murder case of Ekaterina Karaglanova may have already been solved.

The Russian Instagram influencer, who posted under the accidentally tragic handle katti_loves_life, was found dead in her apartment in Moscow last Friday.

The 24-year-old’s family contacted her landlord after not hearing from her in several days — leading to the discovery she had been murdered, her body stuffed inside a suitcase.

Less than a week later, authorities have already made an arrest.

According to Russian daily newspaper Moskovsky Komsomolets, investigators looked into CCTV footage of an apparent ex-boyfriend visiting the apartment days before wearing gloves and carrying a suitcase.

That man was identified as 33-year-old Maxim Gareyev, and he has now been charged with the murder.

The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation released a video on Wednesday of Gareyev confessing to the murder.

In the video, Gareyev reportedly admits to killing Katti and stuffing her naked body into a suitcase.

According to translation by various U.S. news sources, he says:

I stabbed her at least five times with a knife in the neck and chest. I regret it. I will cooperate with the investigation.”

The murder apparently took place on July 22. She was found a full four days later, her legs reportedly sticking out of the suitcase she had been packed into.

The accused apparently acknowledges he’d had an intimate relationship with the beauty queen, who had also just graduated from medical school. However, she had reportedly begun a new relationship with a “much older” man and was planning a trip to The Netherlands.

Gareyev is quoted as saying in the video:

“She repeatedly insulted me, humiliated my sexual dignity. She minimized financial opportunities. And I could not stand it.”

He also specifies:

“She told me that I was ugly and that even plastic [surgery] would not help me.”

Gareyev also apparently insinuates in his confession video Ekaterina was some kind of escort, saying he paid her money every time he visited her, and that she was demanding too much money — even telling him it would take a year for him to save up enough to visit her again.

Well. That actually would be something of a Law And Order-style twist.

Thus far none of what Gareyev is now alleging has been corroborated.

Apparently the murder confession was good enough for Russian prosecutors though. But it is worth noting he has not officially entered a guilty plea nor is it readily apparent he had a lawyer present during the questioning and confession.

However, in a court appearance on Thursday, Gareyev was quoted as telling Katti’s parents:

“I am ashamed of myself.”

According to Moskovsky Komsomolets, Gareyev’s lawyer plans to have his client evaluated by a mental health professional.
