When in New York, poke fun at the mayor!
Sabrina Carpenter was performing at Madison Square Garden on Sunday night, and at one point during the show, she paused to bring up Mayor Eric Adams‘ indictment. Referencing her controversial Feathers music video, the pop star asked the crowd:
“Should we talk about how I got the mayor indicted or…?”
She then cracked up laughing and covered her mouth with her hand. Hah!

If you don’t know, the NYC mayor was charged with bribery and wire fraud last week for an alleged scheme that lasted almost ten years! His indictment was 57 pages long and claimed that he received more than $100,000 worth of free plane tickets and luxury hotel stays, as well as accepting illegal contributions to his 2021 mayoral campaign, among other things. He has pleaded not guilty.
So, what the heck does this have to do with Sabrina?! Well, apparently, her 2023 music video controversy led to an investigation into the church connected to Adams! As Perezcious readers will recall, the Disney Channel alum released a music video last year that saw her celebrating the death of a ton of men who had been inappropriately catcalling and being creepy towards her. It ended with her at the church where she was dancing by the dead suitor’s caskets.
It was clearly meant to be light-hearted and spooky, but members of the Catholic church were deeply disturbed by the video, which was filmed at Our Lady of Mount Carmel-Annunciation Parish in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
Monsignor Jamie J. Gigantiello — who approved the video but claimed he was “not aware” of the inappropriate content — told the New York Times via email weeks after its release that he was demoted and stripped of his administrative duties by Bishop Robert Brennan! Damn! Now, he is yet again being dragged into more drama!
The diocese told the outlet that the priest’s demotion, which led to a “broader administrative review” of the parish, may have also led to a connection between the parish and the mayor. Amid the investigation into Adams, federal investigators issued a subpoena on September 20 to the parish requesting information on Jamie’s financial or business dealings with Eric’s former chief of staff Frank Carone, sources told NBC New York. They haven’t been charged with anything yet, but still, it’s kinda crazy that Sabrina’s church drama unknowingly led to all of this!! She clearly can’t believe it!
BTW, a spokesperson for the Brooklyn diocese that oversees the parish told NBC New York:
“The Diocese is fully committed to cooperating with law enforcement in all investigations, including of conduct at individual parishes or involving any priests.”
While Jamie declined to comment, Frank said he was “unaware” of any investigation connected to him. Hmm.
