Savannah Chrisley isn’t living high off the (ill-gotten) hog after her parents went to prison… her life is actually FAR from it! According to her, at least!
The reality TV veteran popped up with a new episode of her Unlocked podcast on Wednesday. In it, she slammed the common assertion from haters and critics that she’s living comfortably off the money her parents fraudulently obtained. Of course, her mom and dad Julie and Todd Chrisley are spending a little time in federal prison after their convictions on bank fraud and tax evasion. But to hear Savannah explain it, they aren’t the only ones who took a major hit after the feds swooped in!

During the podcast, in which the Sassy By Savannah mogul welcomed a few friends, the Chrisley daughter laid out her financial situation amid the $17.8 million in restitution payments her parents were ordered to pay as part of their conviction back in June of 2022. She started by slamming the most common thing she hears from haters still to this day:
“People comment and will say, like, ‘Oh, I feel so sorry for you, living off of mom and daddy’s stolen money.’ And ‘You’re rich, it’s easy, stop trying to act like it’s so hard.'”
But she’s NOT rich, she claims! Far from it! Recalling how she “struggled” through it all, Savannah explained:
“I struggled. Like, I know what it feels like to not know how you’re going to pay your bills that month, because I was left with three mortgages, and the lawyers, and kids.”
Of course, the “kids” she references are her brother Grayson, 17, and her niece Chloe, 11. Both had been under Todd and Julie’s care when the Chrisley Knows Best stars went to prison, and in short order, both were turned over to Savannah so she could be their guardian immediately after sentencing. So, yeah, she did suddenly have a lot thrust on her plate at that point!

Plus, with her parents disgraced following the convictions, and with their show Chrisley Knows Best dead in the water, Savannah had to scurry to make ends meet. She pushed her brand Sassy hard, but that has taken time to build. She also began a career in real estate, but that work was equally time-consuming with precious few payouts at the very beginning. She noted:
“I was just getting into real estate, and, like, your first year, you’re pretty much, you know, like, working for every deal that you get. And that’s the thing, it’s like, people have this misconception that I’m sitting on millions of dollars and I’m like, ‘If you know where it is, please walk me to it. I would love to see it.'”
So, she continued to struggle. On the podcast, she recounted how she had to really pare down the items she was buying at the grocery store. She also had to learn to tell the kids “no” when it came to things they wanted to do or buy:
“But I know what it’s like to struggle. I used to not go have to go to the grocery store and look at — I would just buy whatever. I was at a point to where I had to tell the kids no to stuff. And I put their needs before mine. I don’t know how I did it, but somehow I was able to do it.”
And there was more than that, too! When it came time for Savannah to sell her parents’ home in Georgia, the feds fought tooth-and-nail to retain ALL of the three percent realtor commission she was going to take from the sale to live on:
“They would not allow me to sell the house if they didn’t get the money [for restitution].”
Thankfully, in the end, she noted that her lawyer managed to negotiate a deal in which she was allowed to keep one-and-a-half percent of the commission for her family. But damn!!
Now, since then, Savannah has started to play the game a bit. She’s appeared on The Masked Singer, as well as World’s Toughest Test. And Unlocked has been a must-listen podcast for a while now. So, we hope that things are turning back around for her. And for Grayson and Chloe! Still, what a grind that must have been, especially at first. Reactions, y’all?? Share ’em (below)…
