UPDATE 10/23 5:57 P.M. EST: Solange has received a public apology from The Evening Standard. It reads, “We were delighted to have the chance to interview the wonderful Solange Knowles and photograph her for this week’s edition of ES magazine. It is therefore a matter of great regret that the finished cover artwork of the magazine caused concern and offence. The decision to amend the photograph was taken for layout purposes but plainly we made the wrong call and we have offered our unreserved apologies to Solange.”
Clearly the Evening Standard didn’t listen when Solange sang Don’t Touch My Hair!!
The songstress took to Instagram on Thursday to share her dismay over the magazine photoshopping her hair out of the cover!! And considering she says in her interview how important braiding is to her, it seems really fucked up they’d retouch the look!

The “dtmh” stands for her song Don’t Touch My Hair.
And here is the cover Evening Standard went with:
Her brilliant third album was both a critical and commercial success, but Solange is as focused on art as she is on music. @saintrecords talks about the influence of her mother, retaining control and where she├óΓé¼Γäós going next├óΓé¼┬ª PLUS: A non-stop 24 hours in the @claridgeshotel kitchen, Extreme makeover: the #JEREMYCORBYN edition, @gracedent eats at @CorebyClareSmyth, we take an #ESescape to the Isle of #Eriska AND @anthony_joshua ‘s #MYLONDON #ESmagazine x #Solange Photographers: @elliott.jerome + @dritch Stylist: @mindy_le_brock Hairstylist: @jogoeswest + @vernonfrancoisA post shared by Evening Standard Magazine (@eveningstandardmagazine) on Oct 19, 2017 at 12:01am PDT
The 31-year-old actually explained to the mag, her braids hold a special meaning as an “act of beauty, an act of convenience and an act of tradition. Its own art form.”
So, the irony became all too obvious when the creative forces decided to Photoshop her hair.
Although, ES did keep the original look for the rest of the spread, which you can check out (below):
