You may have noticed a bit more star factor at this year’s NBA finals. No, there isn’t an amazing new shooting guard redefining the game. We’re talking about the many, many cutaways to Timothée Chalamet.
Timmy has been a regular at Knicks games the past few weeks, sometimes next to other stars like Ben Stiller and Miles Teller… sometimes even bringing girlfriend Kylie Jenner as his plus-one! And if you watch the games, you can’t miss him. They show the enthusiastic fan A LOT. And you know who hasn’t been complaining about it? NBA fans. But now someone is kind of bitter: Swifties!

Yeah, Taylor Swift fans are stuck trying to figure out why their girl caused so much uproar among the Brads and Chads… and no one seems to bat an eye about Timmy! After all, his presence is much more in the faces of viewers. Just look!

They cut to him AT LEAST as much as they did to Tay! Seems like a lot more! What’s with the double standard??
Naturally some Swifties noticed they were seeing clips of the Dune star all over their timelines and yet no one was complaining he was ruining the NBA. Here are some of the annoyed comments:
“Why is it fine for Timothée to watch Basketball. But when Taylor Swift was watching football it was ruining the NFL?”
“They show Timothée Chalamet 1000x times more than they show Taylor Swift during games.”
“funny how no one says he’s ruining the games or stealing the spotlight from the players. the real issue for men is that women exist.”
“Timothee Chalamet showing up for all the Knicks playoff games is genuinely sick and I love all that content but it’s kinda sad to compare the public’s reaction to that vs Taylor Swift attending her boyfriend’s games”
“why aren’t men whining about Timothee’s excessive screen time during games?? Or is it only a problem when it’s Taylor Swift?”
“Taylor Swift being more famous than Timothée Chalamet is not why she gets massive hate for attending games. It’s always been about male discomfort with women invading their spaces and the perceived feminisation of sport”
There were a few responses trying to answer why there’s a double standard. Some said it was because NBA fans were more chill than NFL fans. Others pointed to the long history of celebs with courtside tickets. But a lot more commenters just got angry about women complaining. Yes, really.
A lot of the response was saying Timmy is a “real fan” because he’s been a fan for years, whereas Taylor was a fake fan — and just a girlfriend. Sigh. Definitely not beating those sexism and gatekeeping allegations, are they?
