Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds were “the talk of the evening” at SNL 50… Buuuuut not in a good way.
The married couple made a surprise appearance at Saturday Night Live’s 50th anniversary special on Sunday, where they were seen posing for pictures on the red carpet and mingling with fellow attendees. Ryan even managed to slide in a playful joke regarding his and Blake’s ongoing litigation with Justin Baldoni over It Ends With Us — which some fans weren’t too happy about.
We mean, points for addressing the elephant in the room, but given the gravity of the claims being flung back and forth, was it really the right move?? Clearly that was the question on many guests’ minds as a new report claims it wasn’t just social media that had a strong reaction to Blake and Ryan’s presence! Many were “confused” as to why the controversial couple were even at the anniversary special at all when they have much bigger fish to fry with their contentious legal battle!
On Monday, a source told TMZ Blake and Ryan “were the talk of the entire evening” and that several stars actively “avoided them.” One source who attended the afterparty allegedly heard someone even say, “Who told them to come?” after spotting the married couple. OUCH!
If that doesn’t send a message we don’t know what does. We honestly can’t blame ’em, though… With how contentious the whole situation is, it was probably easier to just skip any small talk altogether. And out of ALL the people there, we’re sure there were at least some Justin supporters, right?

Other eyewitnesses noted how the Green Lantern co-stars were highly welcomed at the production — with fans even cheering behind barricades when they arrived out front. It’s something we saw in pics with other stars, too. Insiders specifically claimed Blake had a friendly interaction with Dakota Johnson, while Ryan chatted up Woody Harrelson — which tracks with a report another source previously told People that the spouses “had a great time” despite being “nervous” to re-enter the spotlight amid their legal battle:
“They stayed after the live show wrapped and mingled in the studio and were talking with everyone from Ben Stiller to Paul McCartney. They spent time talking with Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson too.”
Well, they certainly made an impression! Just remember, this is Hollywood! It’s not necessarily just the folks who didn’t smile and say hi who are whispering about you. It’s just like high school — some of the nicest are talking trash the minute you’re out of earshot! (Not Tom Hanks though, that man is a treasure!)
Boy, would we love to be a fly on the wall when Ryan and Blake got home and debriefed from their experience! We wonder what they heard…
