Although we don’t expect Homer Simpson to ask, “where…are…my…donuts?” anytime during this episode, The Simpsons is totally invoking Game of Thrones, and will be killing off a character in the fall’s Season 26 premiere.
Hey, Valar Morghulis, right?
This news is confirmed by executive producers Al Jean and Matt Selman.
Al had this to say on the the episode entitled The Yellow Wedding, which he says will be an even bigger deal than the most recent death on GoT:

“The character that dies is portrayed by an actor who won an Emmy for playing that character. People who reported on it then reported we were killing an ‘iconic’ character; I’d like to say it’s a great character, but I never used the word ‘iconic.’ It’s a terrific character and it [happens in] our premiere this coming year.”

But don’t worry! The character could come back for a Treehouse of Horror episode, or perhaps a dream sequence, Al implied. What is dead may never die!
Matt had this to add about how they approached the talent about their character’s upcoming demise:

“What we told the performer is, ├óΓé¼╦£This does not mean the end of your participation in The Simpsons.'”

While those on the internet have used this information to correctly guess the character, unlike Facebook the second Game of Thrones is over, we won’t spoil anything!
All we need now is Homer becoming Khal of the D’oh-thraki!
