Tom Hanks Says He Got Type 2 Diabetes Because He Was A 'Total Idiot!'

Tom is dishing about his disease!
Tom Hanks is only blaming himself for his diabetes diagnosis.
The acclaimed actor first revealed he has Type 2 diabetes in 2013, and now he’s speaking out a little bit more about how he ended up with the disease in the first place.

In a recent interview with the Radio Times, the 59-year-old admitted that becoming diabetic was nobody’s fault but his own, saying:

“I’m part of the lazy American generation that has blindly kept dancing through the party and now finds ourselves with a malady. I was heavy. You’ve seen me in movies. You know what I looked like. I was a total idiot.”

The A-lister confessed that his poor diet is what put him in this position, and he wasn’t very cautious in his attempts to avoid the diagnosis:

“I thought I could avoid it by removing the buns from my cheeseburgers. Well, it takes a little bit more than that.”

And while he’s criticizing his past actions, the movie star is much more optimistic when it comes to his future, adding:

“My doctor says if I can hit a target weight, I will not have Type 2 diabetes anymore.”

That’s such a relief! We have total faith that the famous father can get his body to a place where he can be healthy again!
Plus, the Forrest Gump alum says it helps that he hasn’t really had the chance to get super into drugs and alcohol:

“I’m lucky. I was in charge of offspring at a very early age, so I didn’t have the luxury of being able to get stoned a lot, and I never drank too much. I was never what I call a sh*tfaced artist. I thought it was more fun to be seeing what was going on. I did my share, but it didn’t become a habit.”

We wish Tom well on his journey to be rid of Type 2 diabetes!
