Many people bought and read Britney Spears’ memoir The Woman in Me after it hit the bookshelves last year. We mean, who wouldn’t want to learn more about the life of one of the biggest pop stars in the world — and to get the tea on her messy relationship with Justin Timberlake!? But one person who has not even glanced at a single page of the book to this day? Her ex-husband!
Yep! Sam Asghari told the Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday he never read the memoir. Why? The 30-year-old actor kept the explanation short, saying:
“I did not read the book because I was there.”
We bet Sam got a glimpse at the book during the time they were still together before the official publication. Plus, they were dating during the final years of her conservatorship, so he saw what she went through toward the end. We guess all of that is what he meant by “I was there.”
However, the fitness trainer previously did say he couldn’t “wait to read it” and would “be the first one in line to buy it.” Hmm. Perhaps he changed his mind? And he actually didn’t want to read something from his ex-wife — even if she had nothing but great things to say about him?

As Perezcious readers know, Sam filed for divorce from the singer two months before the bestseller dropped in October 2023. She praised her then-husband in it, calling him “a gift from God.” But again, Brit wrote that BEFORE the breakup! She possibly had a lot more to say about Sam once they were over. Unfortunately, the Toxic artist was unable to include anything else by then. Sources told Page Six her tell-all already went to print when the pair called it quits, so she couldn’t make any changes.
That being said, Britney is planning to write a second book about how her relationship with Sam came to an end! Will he want to read that one??
Well, maybe… We’re told we shouldn’t expect the memoir to be a hit piece on her ex-husband! A source told Us Weekly that she “is not looking to go after Sam” but “just wants [to write about] why the relationship broke down.” Will Sam read the second memoir instead? Or would he rather look forward? Of course, that’s a question for way down the line — no official announcement for the sequel has even been made!
If Brit Brit doesn’t drop a tell-all about what went wrong with Sam, though, don’t turn to him to find out what happened! The Hollywood Reporter noted the model was hesitant to talk about his marriage to the 42-year-old performer. In fact, he wouldn’t even reveal if they were still in contact! Sam explained:
“If my life is private, it’s private. That’s something I’m always going to respect, regardless of any agreement or not. It’s just the values that I have.”
That “agreement” refers to the NDA he reportedly signed years ago that bars him from discussing in detail about his relationship with Britney. So as we said, don’t plan to get the tea from Sam! What he will say is that he has a bunch of feelings surrounding the divorce, which was finalized in May:
“When something ends, of course, there’s going to be a moment where you are sad or upset, but just be happy that it ever even happened. Celebrate the past. That’s how I look at it.”
What a positive take on the situation. But we wonder if Sam’s feelings will change based on whatever Britney says in the next book… Of course, he would have to read it this time!
