Elwood, World's Ugliest Dog Of 2007, Has Passed Away

elwood worlds ugliest dog of 2007 has passed away
Aww! This is so sad!
Elwood, who was crowned the world’s ugliest dog in 2007, has sadly passed away. He was 8-years-old.
The canine’s owner Karen Quigley said her adorably ugly pooch died on Thanksgiving morning after months of health problems, although the death was unexpected.
The Chinese crested and Chihuahua mix had become something of a cultural phenomenon after winning his ugliest dog crown in 2007.
Since then, the pooch has appeared at hundreds of events, and also helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for animal rescue organizations and other animal care groups.
In fact, Elwood’s owner Karen Quigley wrote a children’s book based on her puppy called Everyone Loves Elwood. Its message is that it’s okay to be and look different, and encourages all readers to be kind to animals.
Which she definitely was when she saved Elwood!
Here’s her explaining how she saved him:

“The breeder was going to euthanize him because she thought he was too ugly to sell.”

Karen rescued Elwood when he was nine months old, and the rest is history!
We’re sad to hear Elwood has passed, but it sounds like he had a great life while he was here!
And, of course, he has left behind some sad loved ones!
Here’s what Karen said:

“He made people smile, he made them laugh and feel good. It was wonderful. He will truly be missed.”

Rest in peace, Elwood!
