It's Confirmed: Criss Angel's Cirque du Soleil Show Sucks

Filed under: Sin City > Criss Angel

crissangelbelieve.jpg

We guess Criss Angel and crew couldn't fix the problems that came to light during the ill-received previews!

On Halloween night, Criss Angel Belive by Cirque du Soleil officially premiered at the Luxor in Las Vegas.

Based on the Las Vegas press' reaction, we think we'll save our money for something more worthy:

That — among its many, more obvious failings — is the fatal flaw at the heart of “Criss Angel: Believe.”

There’s just no wonder in it.

In fact, there’s shockingly little magic to be seen in this much-anticipated Cirque du Soleil spectacle constructed around a celebrity magician. No shock, no awe, precious little surprise, even.

Cirque throws everything in its considerable arsenal of stage genius at Angel — the expected array of lush, loud music, expert dancers and aerialists, lavish settings and boundary-breaking special effects, all intended to amaze.

The single most amazing thing about “Believe” is that it’s still so boring.

For a reported $100 million, Cirque has bought itself its first bona fide bomb.

OUCH!

Bona fide bomb?!

After reading the review, will you still put up your hard earned dollars to be 'awed' by Criss?

I love Criss, I'd pay just to see him ;) ……..first?

  2. 2

…there most certainly IS wonder in it Perez! We all were wondering how he thought it could succeed! "Any Day Now" he will not bomb…

  3. 3

No, I'd much rather see a "real" Cirque du Soleil, thank you very much. And his eyes scare me.

I saw this show a couple of weeks back, and the review in the Las Vegas Sun is bang on. Not enough Cirque, not enough magic. WAY too much dancing and choreography for my liking. And I did NOT need to see Criss Angel dancing in choreographed numbers, let alone singing like a rock star. I noticed they mentioned there was a "Co-Director" at the end of the show…Criss needs to step aside and let this person do her job. It seemed like there were way to many cooks in the kitchen.

Like this is a big surprise, he's a douchebag.

  8. 8

Yeah I also saw this show last Friday and it was the biggest piece of crap I have ever seen. Like my dad said after the show, "I do BELIEVE this was the worst f***ing show I have ever seen."

  9. 9

I saw Believe a few weeks back, and it was amazing. It's a really great story,, along with Criss' popular illusions performed on Mindfreak. The show has great music, costumes, dancing, and I would highly recommend it to anyone. Perez,, you still have to see it. =)

  10. 10

It was beyond horrible, I feel so bad that I talked my friends into going. They tried to get their money back but of course were told no way! DON'T waste your money!

  11. 11

ROFLMFAO! A first class dweeb screws up a probably decent Cirque du Soleil show~ one that didn't need to be!
I cannot believe how long it is taking for the freakin' world to pull they're collective heads out of their collective asses and recognize that underneath his ugly-ass hair, bad make-up job, (oooh! puke!) his "bad boy" outfits that I'm sure his "people" dress him in, and his fat ass (ie: body)~ is a total effing dweeb of dweebs that somehow, SOMEHOW! made it in Vegas after changing his name (to a really effin' stupid name), dressing like a poser from the 80's, and getting a few whores to hang on him while doing his "magic".
    PATHETIC!
    THE LOSER MAKES ME ILL!

Rock on, Cirque du Soleil!!! ♥

  12. 12

Yes, of course i will see it..I have seen all of them and will not exclude this one. You dont understand the what is means to be a Cirque du Soleil fan!
The genius that is cirque is what people go to see.

  13. 13

    A big, bad resounding "NO!"

    ~ yawn ~

  14. 14

P.S. It doesn't help that that anonymous magician with a bag over his head is letting out the magician secrets.

Half the fun was wondering HOW these tricks are done. Now I know how they are done thanks to that anonymous magician.

    …. YAWN again.

    Re: Brittany515

Did we see the same show?! I DO agree - it's still worth seeing, for the set pieces and the costumes alone. There were some great moments, like the tornado, the poppies and the walking bunny head, but a lot of the great moments were the "Cirque" moments. If I were running the show, I'd shave each number down by about 30 seconds, cut the choreographed numbers down considerably, and cut out any singing and dancing by Criss altogether. And, add more MAGIC. The show was a mishmash. It didn't gel. They need to do a big overhaul, or this thing is going to die a slow death.

  16. 16

    but mister P!
have u seen the show yet…i thought u where personally invited to the opening?
i would suggest u see it urself and then post a review! lol
he is a brill artist and illusionist…and dead sexy! lol
i would pay to see him read the newspaper! ha ha ha

  17. 17

    Re: Chucky Cheese
actually,, it's changed a lot sice the preview shows. The singing was there because the final illusion was not yet ready to be performed during the first few weeks of preview performances. I haven't seen the show since the previews.. but what I saw, I totally enjoyed. I understand why people don't enjoy it because it is not your typical Cirque Du Soleil show like KA or O. I'm sure there will still be changed made based off of audience reactions. Either you love it, or you hate it. Everyone is going to have a different opinion on it. =)

  18. 18

I'd go for the Cirque du Soliel aspect of it, but it's still doubtful. I'm going to Vegas early next year and I'm dying to see Donny and Marie. Probably much better.

  19. 19

    Re: Brittany515

I sure didn't hate it. I just walked away with this whole list of things in my head about what I would change to make it better. (As if I know what the heck I'm talking about!? Ha ha.) I haven't seen any other Cirque shows, but I do go to a lot of concerts (e.g. I just went to see Madonna again last week), and have been to a few shows like Phantom of the Opera.

What it DID do is make me want to go back six months from now to see how much the show changes. They've evidently put a lot of work into it, so I hope it all turns out.

  20. 20

I SAW THIS SHOW LAST SATURDAY…….and it was crap-tastic. everyone in my section got up and left! the whole show was his dream-like state after pretending to be injured. Dancing rabbits……..marrying his assistant…..and doing old tricks (BTW he was sawed in half and i saw his legs ungerneath flailing around). SAVE YOUR MONEY………..go see KA at the Mirage

  21. 21

It's Confirmed: EVERYTHING about Criss Angel Sucks

  22. 22

I also saw the show last night and I must agree with everyone, it sucked. I would love more than anything to say that it was the bomb but I think it will bomb, unfortunately. It was soooooo boring. Every time I thought that there was going to be a "OMG" moment, the smoke machine would start up and block our view of what was going on and abracadabra, he was gone or he re-appeared.
It just proves that his show is full of shit and paid "public forums".
I really hope that the people at Cirque will take the criticism and revamp the show into something spectacular. Good luck Luxor and Criss.

  23. 23

I've watched Mindfreak, and, for the record, my mind has never "freaked."

Does anyone's mind "freak" when watching his show? Do they have an IQ maximum limit for his audience?

I can just see the show disclaimer now:

"Attention Audience Members: Only those with an IQ lower than 83 will actually experience a "mind freak." The show, Criss Angel, and it's producers are not legally responsible if you do not experience a "mind freak."

  24. 24

Like someone in here said. Do some research on this desperate to be famous greek boy.

  25. 25

Chucky Cheese is absolutely correct! I attended the show during its preview period. As an audience member, you can sense there are a lot of egos that have put their "stamp" on the show. It's too bad. If they stuck with the wonder of magic and the bewilderment of Cirque, it could be a great show. Unfortunately, it's very disjointed. Hopefully those involved in the direction and production of the show will come to realize their mistakes and revamp it before it's too late.

  26. 26

Cirque du Soleil shows generally sucks because they're too arty farty.

  27. 27

Remember the one we went to? Great show, great seats and most of all….greay company! ;)

  28. 28

lol…this guy is a fucking loser…with all of his diamonds…bling ..bling….hear the ring of failure Chris?????…you stipid fuck

  29. 29

Perez what you dont understand is not EVERYONE understands Cirque, I had to see Delerium three times to get it.

Instead of judging even after you haven't seen it, why dont YOU go see it and then give your own review?

Besides if it was going to suck… why would the Luxor give it a ten year run? You dont think about certain things darling.

  30. 30

I love Criss Angel. I went to the fourth preview show, and parts of it were really beautiful, but I expected more. I had never been to a Cirque show before…I thought it would be more elaborate, with bigger sets. To me the show didn't "fit" together, the story didn't flow. I hope that they can save the show somehow.
I think we have a case of bad karma coming to fruition here. That is what happens when you bad mouth your fellow magicians and treat women that love you with disrespect… Are you listening Criss? Let the light and love flow, brother.

  31. 31

i saw the show with my boyfriend on the 25th, sat next to michelle pfeifer which ended up being the highlight of the show. I am a theatre major, who did dance for six years and the choreography was the only good thing about the performance. thanks to wade robsen. the set and costumes were AMAZING none the less. but criss fucked it up, it was ALL CRISS and no plot. it was so boring. its a freak show you have to see to believe

  32. 32

i do not like him or he show over rated he suck eggs for all i care

  33. 33

i must say tht i am one of criss angles fans n i will stay loyal to him b/c i luv…im not gonna say tht the show is great or bad b/c i ahevnt seen iht so i have not right to judge it…but i would most def love to go see it

  34. 34

My boyfriend & I went to the show last Sunday and it’s awful, we were so boring the whole show and the people around us too, people left the show early and didn’t applaud. It has about 5 magic tricks only and they are so cheap and obvious and the most time is choreography and music but no magic. I don’t recommend you to waste your money and your time on it, if you go to Vegas you can go to Mystere by Cirque du Soleil at Treasure Island is beautiful and amazing, or you can go to Le Reeve at Wynn is amazing too, and David Copperfield, he is the best, his show is wow! Awesome!, he appeared a car on the stage in seconds, he is incredible, and also is Lance Burton at Montecarlo, even the cheapest of the strip, Dirk Arthur who show costs $20 box it’s better than Criss Angel believe, because it’s very funny and interesting, so my advice is that don’t expend your money on that awful show, because it sucks!
