Queen Latifah Opens Up: Victim Of Sexual Abuse
Filed under: Queen Latifah
In a recent interview, Queen Latifah opened up for the first time about being a victim of childhood sexual abuse.
The actress mentioned that a teenage babysitter preyed upon her as a child, which manifested into difficulties with her adult relationships.
"He violated me," shares Latifah in the new issue of Essence. "I never told anybody. I just buried it as deeply as I could and kept people at an arms length. I never really let a person get too close to me. I could have been married years ago, but I had a commitment issue."
She seems to have her head on straight!!!
Very brave to share!!

Very brave Perez? She just needs attention as her career is fading away.
Good for you QL…Now come out come out and free yourself totally!
I hope you feel like such a douchebag now since you tried to out her like 8,000 times. You and I have such a love/hate one way relationship, Perez.
but its illegal for her to marry her gurl :/
Oh Great, another prelude to coming out where she can blame her lesbianism on sexual abuse. Kelly McGillis used the same tact in the 80's before actually really coming out just this year.
this is old news, came out months ago
people do not realize how rampant sexual abuse is.. and it does make a difference when a "celebrity" speaks out about it. that's very brave for her to come out and say such a thing.
why did she have a MALE baby sitter in the first place..?
Poor girl.
Re: Miley Cyrus…The Princess of All Media –
Exactly!! She didn't feel the need to divulge this when she was at the top of her carreer. I truly believe half these celebs make this shit up.
aww poor Queen latifah she is a really great person and actress!!
.
Good for her - they should find the guy that did it and shoot him.
.
.
That being said the whole "She could have been married years ago if she was straight." comment?
.
.
Everyone knows she's a lesbian…her gf is from my home city.
.
.
that was so brave of her to admit. people like her allow others with similar experiences to not feel so alone.
love you, queen!!
xoxo
That's why she's gay. Real talk
wow! And she is so funny and happy!
Maybe now you can lay off her and her right to stay private about her sexuality!
Love her.
Like her there are thousands who have been abused.
Sad. Truely sad.
So maybe the rumor is not true about her being gay. She just doesn't trust men.
Oh please; just come out of the closet already!
she's so cool - i love her.
Is it just me or do a lot of gay people have a lot of issues related to that sort of thing. I know she hasn't admitted to being gay but still, you can't deny that its a common thing.
This is old news, most people just didn't know it was a babysitter, but she's admitted before to this happening.
Re: a40sgal – You said ""Maybe now you can lay off her and her right to stay private about her sexuality! ""

And what does this have to do with staying private abouther sexuality?
yeah right. she's just in some way trying to excuse/deny her dykehood or the rumors of it by saying This in some interview. sad
Why does this seem like a common occurrence in the homosexual comunity? I'm not joking or playing around its just that when people "come out" an abusive story is likely to be not very far behind….
I love her!!! And her career is NOT fading…Queen Latifah is in practically every movie!
And who said she was Gay?! I think it's perfectly normal for a woman to choose be single…especially one as successful as QL. It doesn't mean she's Gay.
Dana is a beautiful, strong, well-respected gay woman. There's no real secret about that. I have professionally encountered her and her girlfriend on several occasions. She is a wonderful human being.
BULLSHIT BULLSHIT BULLSHIT!!!!!!! Every other celebrity out there has some sob story of overcoming adversity to make themselves seem so strong. 90% of them are fucking liars. This bitches career is going down the shitter ’cause no one cares about her fat black ass anymore so she and her "handlers" concoct up this sob ass story. Fuck her
Boo hoo hoo. Is this a diversion to take our attention away from the fact that she is a bull-dyke? Isn't National Coming Out Day October 11. Do the right thing Latifah. Out of the closet, everyone knows anyway, you just look like a fool. And, that poor girlfriend of yours must be so ashamed of you. Shame on you Mario for falling for this sob sister crap; it's PR spin.
She's just setting the stage for her to come out as a giant lesbian.
I agree, very brave to say something so personal. To anyone claiming she needs attention, she's an Oscar winner and can do anything she wants in her career. I don't see how revealing an embarrasing and deeply troubling personal experience can be used for career gain, that's just ignorant. It's great that people are sharing their experiences and hoping to inspire others to do the same. What I have a problem with is the commitment issues bit. If she's still having issues related to this trauma, she has a responsibility to see a professional and work through it and not blame her past on her choices today. If you need help, get it. Don't suffer your entire life over something when you could deal with it and move on.
i LOVE the Queen!!
PS Hey, Latifah. Is that baby sitter still available? I could use a good poke; and I don't mind sloppy seconds either.
Re: CuddlyCarla – You're a fucking idiot who knows nothing about "Building" someone up. This horseshit story is just a lame ass common Hollywood trick to show her "overcoming great adversity" and "rising above" to become a stronger person. Go back and look how many celebrities claim crap stories like this, then break a beer bottle over your head. You bore me.
when people stop caring about you roll out the abuse storey, never fails.
Oh, Lord. I like her, but she is still trying to keep fools "guessing"? Could have been married years ago, eh? Maybe she had commitment issues though.
I assume she is telling the truth about the sexual abuse, but it's funny how these revelations from entertainers always precede an album-drop or film release.
I, for one, am tired of the games. Come out, be public with your less-than-attractive girl, and risk it all. You have enough money now.
I don't really think that this is the right place for this kind of news….
Re: BoogerRed – Sexual abuse is a lot more common than some people might think. A lot of my high school friends later told me that they went through sexual abuse, but felt too embarrassed to tell anyone about it. My mother deals with victims of it in her job and is still surprised at how many people it happens to. You should not be a blowhard about something like this. Just keep quiet.
Re: Apt. 54 – You're a liar. Plain and simple you're a liar. What you want people to feel sorry for you. Boo Hoo look at you and your friends. Bullshit. Liar.
Damn, that sucks. Wouldn't want those memories constantly floating in my head. Thanks Mom and dad for not doing any of that perverted shit to me. Thanks for my great childhood.
Re: BoogerRed – It didn't happen to me and I am very thankful. Most people it happens to aren't going to advertise it. If it did not happen to you, be thankful. But shut the hell up about other people who are trying to deal with it. You must be very young or very sheltered if you don't know anyone who has dealt with this.
OH KUDOS QUEENIE…..DIDNT TELL ANYONE ABOUT THE PERVO BABYSITTER,SO HOW MANY MORE GIRLS DO YA THINK HE MOLESTED? BECAUSE YOU DIDNT SPEAK UP HELLA SOONER????
Re: CuddlyCarla – How very true and well-put. It's a shame that some other people are using this forum to be disrespectful and use 3rd-grade humor and crudeness. Sexual abuse is very real and very common and it is brave of her to share her story. And no one should have a timeline imposed on them as to when or how they should start sharing a traumatic experience with the rest of the world.
What parent would leave a male babysitter for their daughter? Sorry but I don't buy it. Gay she is but don;'t try and blame it on something that probably never happened.
LOVE THE QUEEN.
I think most homosexuals were either sexually abused or had parents who did not give them love and affection when they were children. Queen is a super dyke so I'm not surprised that she was abused. What's your situation, Perez?
Re: CuddlyCarla – She's not an Oscar winner, she's an Oscar LOSER. She was nominated in 2003 but she LOST>
No surprise there then - she's outed as a lesbian so she has to come up with a reason for it to satisfy all those homophobic record buying fans…Nice one..
Maybe that is her new reasons for liking girl. Whatever reason it is men aren't for her and haven't been for year. I remember seeing her out a gay club all hugged up with her girl in Newark years ago, remember First Choice over on Market St. Not to mention I just recently moved from the same little section of NJ were she now live. She's a muncher I'm 1000000 percent sure.
Awww!=( That is so sad! She is such an amazing actress and individual and hearing this is so heartbreaking!=(
Go girl! Though she waited so long to share her story, I hope that other women will see her strength and speak up about their own abuse. Abuse is never okay!
why share now???
I love this woman. she's both smart and beautiful. brave to share, Queen!
is it me or is it that EVERYTIME a so called celebrity wants attention she has been sexually abused … yes i know it happens …a lot. It happen to me but to USE it the way they do horrible!
Her mother needs her ass kicked …where the fuck did she need to go so bad that she is going to leave her pretty little girl with a horny teenage boy! She and the teenager should be arrested for abuse!
maybe thats what made her a republican
