Rosie O’Donnell is in talks with MSNBC to return to TV, The New York Times is reporting.
The paper is reporting that the network is in ongoing negotiations with the talk show host.
NBC has been aggressively courting Rosie in recent months for a number of jobs, including host of a possible new game show.
O’Donnell is now being lined up for a 9:00 PM show, which would replace MSNBC’s little-watched Live with Dan Abrams.
That highly competitive time slot would see Rosie take on Larry King at CNN and Hannity & Colmes on Fox News.
O’Donnell alluded somewhat to her possible new job in a speech she gave at a book-signing in Miami Beach on Sunday night.
Rosie said that she would soon begin competing against “the guy with the suspenders and the long, long face,” a reference to King.
The conversations with O’Donnell are continuing, and several aspects of her deal are yet to be finalized. These include how much she would be paid and whether or not she would also have a presence on the NBC broadcast network.
A cable talk show seems a perfect fit for Rosie. This would give her a lot more freedom and ability to get political and talk about a wider range of topics than she could in a traditional broadcast network show.
Then again, this means she might not be making as much money. But Rosie’s probably not doing it for the cash.
Or is she???
We’ll watch the first few episodes for sure.
Let’s hope it doesn’t suck!
