The 39-year-old dished:
"There was a period before Scandal when I went into the wilderness. There was a lot of toxicity in my life, people I needed to let go of in a personal way, in a business way. And, also, I felt like I had been living my career kind of on auto-pilot. I took a break and did a Broadway play. I went back to my roots as an artist."
She's the original Olivia Pope!
We kid, we kid. But really, it sounds like Kerry only did what she had to do in order to feel herself again!
Talk about squad goals!
Jennifer Lopez, Kerry Washington, Kirsten Dunst, Julianna Margulies, Regina King, Sarah Paulson, and Constance Zimmer are some of the fiercest females on TV right now, so it only makes sense these gorgeous gals joined forces for The Hollywood Reporter's latest cover!

J.Lo opened up about how she HATES being labeled a "diva," saying:
"I got a moniker of being 'the diva,' which I never felt I deserved — which I don't deserve — because I've always been a hard worker, on time, doing what I'm supposed to do, and getting that label because you reach a certain amount of success."
The Scandal star also explained that leading ladies are often treated differently when it comes to nude scenes, commenting:

The Scandal season finale set up the presidential election for next season, with plenty of shocking political twists and turns along the way!
After Mellie (Bellamy Young) and Frankie Vargas (Ricardo Chavira) earned the presidential nominations last week, their VP running mates were unveiled in the season finale.
On the Republican side, Jake Ballard (Scott Foley) was selected to run with Mellie — a move orchestrated by Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) in order to save him.

But the real chess board is being operated by Olivia's dad Rowan (Joe Morton) — who has a master plan to use Mellie's ticket to get Jake, Olivia, and himself into the White House. At the end of the episode, Papa Pope smirks and says "that's my girl," as he watches Mellie's convention unfold.
But the selection for the Democratic running mate was even more shocking — even to Olivia and the Gladiators — after Frankie's VP was revealed to be none other than Cyrus (Jeff Perry)!
Fans of the Shonda Rhimes political drama were definitely taken back by this twist — which is REALLY going to shake things up next season!

Kerry Washington may currently be expecting a bundle of joy, but all Scandal fans can expect in the near future is disappointment.
That's because it was reported on Monday that Olivia Pope's second baby just got the ABC drama's episode order cut by six episodes for next year!
Apparently, Disney doesn't want to risk any issues with filming, so Season Six will feature 16 hour-long episodes, as opposed to the usual 22.

While this isn't the best news for fans, Gladiators are used to this kind of treatment — Kerry's first pregnancy in 2013 saw Season Three shrink from 22 episodes to just 18.
However, this shorter season may actually be a blessing in disguise, because we're hearing ABC may choose to air all 16 episodes without interruption in Spring 2017… meaning no lengthy mid-season hiatus over the Holidays!
Make sure to catch Scandal every Thursday at 9 p.m. EST to see how Shonda Rhymes writes in Kerry's pregnancy!
