Kiefer Sutherland returned to L.A. this week for the early preview of the 24 season finale. And his costars spoke up for him to reporters at the event on Wednesday night, praising him as a great actor and friend.

Among his defenders was long time cast member Carlos Bernard, who referred to Sutherland as "a great guy" and "courteous" to others when the two frequently hang out outside the show.

Others were also on the defense for their beloved Jack Bauer, like Mary Lynn Rajskub, who plays Bauer's techie side-kick Chloe: "Kiefer has his own way of doing things, and he has his own energy, and he is awesome."

A decision has yet to be made if the charges against Sutherland will affect his probation from his 2007 DUI, but at least he is getting by with a little help from his friends.

Kiefer did not defend himself to reporters, however, as they were asked not to question him about the matter.

Smooth move there publicists!

Brooke has spoken!

And she's siding with Kiefer!

Shields has called the statement her camp gave in response to the headbutt heard ’round the world as "neither true nor authorized" and that "Kiefer has always been a gentleman in her company."

Brooke explained the situation she "was bumped into by Jack McCollough and Kiefer Sutherland became concerned" at a party in NYC last Monday night.

And the 24 star's head just happened to fall into McCollough's nose, right???

Kiefer Sutherland is finally speaking up about the head-butting incident against a fashion designer in NYC last week, with his rep releasing a statement that says:

"We are troubled by the untruthful and self-serving information circulating regarding Kiefer Sutherland and events of last Monday evening. We are confident, however, that the investigation being conducted by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office and the NYPD will confirm that Kiefer Sutherland was neither the instigator nor a wrongdoer in this incident. Out of respect for this law enforcement process, Kiefer Sutherland will not be making any comment."

Um, he reportedly HEAD-BUTTED someone in a fit of drunken rage over a minor accident and broke his victim's nose!

That sounds like a "wrongdoing" to us!

It's sad if Kiefer thinks he can be an ass and get away with it.

By the way, stop drinking!

Since Kiefer Sutherland decided to create a real-life episode of his hit action-drama series, the fate of the actual show might be up in the air. The eighth season of 24 is scheduled to begin shooting at the end of this month, but that won't be possible if Jack Bauer is behind bars!

As of now, reports say that no criminal charges have been filed but that prosecutors plan to charge the actor with minor assault.

It's still unclear as to what went down between Sutherland and designer Jack McCollough.

If a charge is filed, it will violate Sutherland's parole agreement from his previous DUI. It could mean another 48 days in jail and the hold up for the new 24 season.

What a pickle you're in Kiefer?

We think you really need to stop drinking.

While Kiefer Sutherland may be getting off easy in New York for now, he might be facing a different story in Los Angeles, where the actor is serving a 5 year probation sentence for his most recent DUI conviction.

According to the terms of the DUI, Sutherland must "obey all laws" and an LA criminal defense attorney not involved with the case explained that "if Sutherland's found in violation of probation for battery, and if he was intoxicated at the time, he could very well be sentenced to another 48 days or more."

LA City Attorney spokesman Frank Mateljan says that his office will be getting in touch with the NYPD regarding the case.

Way to go Kiefer!

Following the bizarre head-butting incident, where he reportedly attacked - without provocation - a fashion designer at a party in NYC on Monday night, Kiefer Sutherland has agreed to surrender himself to authorities as early as today, Thursday, when he'll be charged with third degree assault.

He will be issued a "desk appearance ticket," which means that he won't be jailed and he is free to travel prior to his arraignment.

A police source said, "When the lawyer realized paparazzi could be sitting on his [Sutherland's] doorstep for two to three weeks, suddenly he wanted to come in right away and make it all go away." And a friend said, "Kiefer is sorry it happened. Absolutely. It's terribly regrettable."

Douchey Sutherland should have taken a second to think about that before he went into the head-butt!

Designer Jack McCollough is now sharing his side of the Kiefer Sutherland headbutt, and things are not that much clearer.

The 24 star attacked the fashionista at a party on Monday night, and police are investigating the incident.

A rep for McCollough says that "Anyone who knows Jack McCollough knows that he would not hurt a fly" and called the attack "vicious, violent, unprovoked" which "is in the hands of the authorities."

There are various accounts of the events leading up to the headbutt, with some of them saying that the designer bumped into Brooke Shields and yet others saying that McCollough interrupted something between Sutherland and Shields.

One party guest described the incident as "puzzling."

Sutherland's side hasn't spoke up.

He was probably drunk! And an ass!

Seems that Kiefer Sutherland challenged his inner "Jack Bauer" Monday night.

According to reports, Kiefer attended an after-party for the Met Ball at SubMercer. It was there that onlookers, such as Mary-Kate Olsen and Kirsten Dunst, watched Kiefer HEADBUTT designer Jack McCollough. In fact, he hit him so hard, he broke his nose!!!

Whoa now!

The actor was reportedly upset over Brooke Shields.

Really? Why?

Chace Crawford, 50 Cent and Emma Roberts have all signed on to act in the upcoming Joel Schumacher film, Twelve!

The film, adapted from the Nick McDonell novel of the same name, will follow the story of a "high school dropout-turned drug dealer… [whose] lucrative life sours when the dealer's cousin is brutally murdered on an East Harlem playground and his best friend is arrested for the crime."

Sounds intriguing!

The film which, also stars 24's Kiefer Sutherland and Emmy award-winning actress Ellen Barkin, will begin shooting later this month in New York.
