Michael Phelps issued a carefully worded statement in response to the picture that was published this weekend of the Golden Boy smoking what is alleged to be pot from a bong:

"I engaged in behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment. I'm 23 years old and despite the successes I've had in the pool, I acted in a youthful and inappropriate way, not in a manner people have come to expect from me. For this, I am sorry. I promise my fans and the public it will not happen again."

Wonder what the future will hold!

Will he get dropped from his big $$$ endorsement deals?

Will the Olympics people bar him from competing in 2012?

We're sure Michael Phelps is not having a Chico's kind of Super Bowl day!

The UK's News of the World scored a picture of Olympics poster child Michael Phelps taking a big bong hit of what is assumed to be marijuana.

The tabloid always get their hands on crazy, juicy stuff!

The photo of Phelps supposedly getting high was snapped at a University of South Carolina party back in early November.

He was apparently visiting a university girl he was 'secretly' seeing.

We thought he was with that Vegas cocktail ho in November!

Play on, player!

One of the partygoers told the tabloid:

"You could tell Michael had smoked before. He grabbed the bong and a lighter and knew exactly what to do. He looked just as natural with a bong in his hands as he does swimming in the pool. He was the gold medal winner of bong hits. Michael ended up getting a little paranoid, though, because before too long he looked like he was nervous and ran out of the place.”

What an idiot!

The Golden Boys' corporate sponsors sure won't be pleased!

When Phelps' agents caught wind that the NOTW was going to run the pic, they supposedly got down on their hands and knees for mercy. The gold medal winner's money men offered the paper,

1. Phelps as a NOTW columnist for three years
2. Host for NOTW events
3. Advertising money from Phelps' corporate sponsors

We're glad the NOTW said no and ran with it!

More importantly, Golden Boy might be out of the London 2012 Olympics because of this eff up.

A law that bans athletes for four-years for taking drugs has just hit the Olympic rule book.

The US Olympics Committee, USA Swimming and Phelps’ coach Bob Bowman have refused to comment.

After winning so many gold medals in the Olympics, it only made sense that Michael Phelps would take a break to relax and celebrate.

Though we think that someone's been pAArtying a bit too much!

Don't get us wrong, his body is still looking HOT but what the hell happened to his abs?

Phelps was spotted this week playing football in Miami Beach while vacationing with friends.

But remember what his abs and body looked like here? And what about this pic?

Someone needs to hit the gym again soon - and it's not just us!

Michael "Don't Look At The Face" Phelps has $5 million endorsement deals with VISA Inc., Hilton Hotels Corp., AT&T Inc., Kellogg Co., Speedo International Ltd, and…PureSport.

Never heard of PureSport? That's because it didn't even exist 3 years ago.

Before the Golden Boy got gilt, he and 3 teammates agreed to endorse the sports drink based out of Austin, Texas. In Beijing, every time Phelps climbed out of the pool, a coach handed him a bottle of PureSport, and before you know it, everyone wanted some of his magic carbo-protein cocktail.

Now the seven strong company slaps Phelps' face on everything, and the exposure has earned them a spot in sports stores shelves, though they still cannot afford TV or print ads. The company gets Phelps for 7 days out of the year and "books the hell out of him." In return, Phelps gets a 5% cut.

Folks in the know say that the close association with a start-up could mean serious disaster for Phelps' image if the company bombs, so Golden Boy better start working it.

Fortunately, it seems like girlfriend Caz is already a big fan of his protein drink!

Olympic Gold winner Michael Phelps has just been named Sports Illustrated's "Sportsman of the Year."

He'll be the first swimmer to ever be given that title!

During his photo session posing for the cover, Phelps took some time to talk to the press. He said, "Honestly, I feel like the same person I've been my whole life."

Adding, "I'm doing what I love. I was able to accomplish what I wanted to accomplish this year. It's been a dream come true of a year, and I definitely couldn't ask to change anything."

Sports Illustrated Group editor Terry McDonell called the choosing of Phelps as "the easiest choice I have made. It is so obvious that he changed not only swimming, but the entire Olympic landscape."

And, Phelps is grateful for all the attention he's been able to get for his sport.

He says, "The football players and basketball players and baseball players have it a little bit different. Everybody sees their faces more often. Just being able to have the attention of the American public is something I've always wanted for our sport. I've been able — not only myself but my teammates — have been able to work together to allow that to happen."

We wonder, though, how he feels about all the attention he's getting by dating that Vegas slut girl he met this year.
