OJ Simpson: Victim Ron Goldman's Family Responds To Alleged Murderer's Death

As reactions to O.J. Simpson‘s death continue to roll in, his alleged victim’s family and attorneys are speaking their piece.

In case you haven’t heard, the former football star passed away on Thursday following a battle with cancer. Eclipsing his NFL and film careers, the 76-year-old was known best for being accused of the murders of his ex Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman. He was infamously acquitted back in 1995, though many believed erroneously — including the families of the victims. So as his death is making headlines, Ron’s loved ones are speaking out — and they’ve decided they’d rather keep the focus away from him.

In a statement to US Weekly on Thursday, Fred Goldman said the “only important thing” to him is his late son and his lady friend:

“The only thing I have to say is that today is a further reminder of how long Ron has been gone and how long we have missed him. The only thing that is truly important today are the victims.”

Furthermore, the family’s attorney spoke out, too — and kept their statement short and sweet. They say O.J. “died without penance” for the crime he is accused of committing. We can’t say we were expecting an “our dearest condolences” message from Ron’s fam and loved ones — but they still handled it less brutally than Caitlyn Jenner!

Keeping it classy can’t have been easy. The Buffalo Bills star died owing Ron and Nicole’s families OVER A HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS. In 1997 he was found liable for the deaths in civil court. There’s a lower burden of proof for lawsuits since no one is being put behind bars — “preponderance of evidence” instead of “beyond a reasonable doubt.” The judgment was for $33.5 million! However, per the Goldmans’ lawyer, speaking to DailyMail.com on Thursday, that was never paid. So with interest piling up over the years, that number has grown into the 9-figure territory. Wild!
