Look at those waves! Looks like so much fun!

16-year-old Lakey Peterson won the U.S. Open Junior Women’s Surfing Championship in Huntington Beach on Saturday with runs of 8.5 and 7.57.

Competing in front of a huge crowd cheering her on, Lakey said:

“I was looking at that trophy before the heat, and I wanted it so bad. don’t know ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ getting carried up through that [crowd] is a feeling most people don’t get in their lifetime. It’s been a good day.”

She later competed and finished as the runner-up in the Women’s Pro Division on Sunday. She said:

“I├óΓé¼Γäóm stoked with the way this week has turned out. It was an honor to surf against Sally (Fitzgibbons) and I├óΓé¼Γäóm really happy to make the Final in my first World Tour event.”

What a great week for such a young woman! And she already has such a great career! Congrats on your win, Lakey!
