Katie Couric is officially off of CBS’ payroll, but there are some conflicting stories as to why Katie finally made the decision to bow out.
Sources connected with the network are suggesting that Katie left after she felt slighted by the limited projects CBS was willing to give her. In negotiations, supposedly the network was ready to offer her occasional pieces on 60 Minutes – and that’s it!
Burn? We think so!
However, if you confer with Katie’s team, they’ll tell you a totally different story. Her camp is insisting that CBS offered her everything short of the moon to stay onboard, including 8 to 10 pieces a year on 60 Minutes, an unlimited number of pieces on CBS Sunday Morning, another Grammy special and loads more!
In the end, it was her desired to have her own syndicated talk show the clinched the deal for Katie. As you well know now, she’s been offered a $20 million guarantee from ABC for the show and there’s just no walking away from that.
Hopefully, her deal will be sealed up soon to make it all worth it. Otherwise, from her teams perspective, she walked away from a hell of a lot!
