Lifetime is busy these days!
Television for women is adding another lady to their payroll. The network has bought Ren├â┬⌐e Zellweger’s period drama series Cinnamon Girl, which Lifetime president Nancy Dubuc called ├óΓé¼┼ôa game changer├óΓé¼┬¥ for the cable network.
The provactive series is about four young girls who are living in Los Angeles in the late 1960s/early 1970s, and are surrounded by the El Lay musc and movie scenes of the time. Part of the series is semi-biographical as Zellweger’s real-life journey from small-town Texas to Hollywood stardom will be featured, combined with the lifestory of her co-creator Anthony Tambakis, who was big into the Laurel Canyon music scene.
Renée will act as a co-executive producer for the series as well as co-write the pilot with Tambakis. In a statement about the project, Renée said:

“We believe the timing is perfect for Cinnamon Girl to have found a home at Lifetime during this transformative juncture at the network. We’re really looking forward to making Cinnamon Girl come to life as part of their campaign to expand audience expectations and redefine what it means to be a Lifetime show.”

Yeah, Lifetime is getting a bit edgier these days. Really expanding their horizons. At first, we weren’t so thrilled about the news since we’d rather see this show play out on HBO or Showtime where it would get more freedom. But Lifetime is still a cable network and maybe with the right direction, it could do great things.
Here’s hoping!
Does Cinnamon Girl pique UR interest?!
