Beverly Hills Cop 4
Bummer!
There have been rumors of another sequel to the Beverly Hills Cop franchise floating around for a while now, but Eddie Murphy has laid any hopes of Detective Axel Foley returning to the big screen to rest.
“It’s not happening,” he told Rolling Stone in his latest interview. “None of the movie scripts were right; it was trying to force the premise. If you have to force something, you shouldn’t be doing it. It was always a rehash of the old thing. It was always wrong.”
The Tower Heist star may not be able to revive the franchise at the box office, but he may be able to revive it on television, explaining:

“What I’m trying to do now is produce a TV show starring Axel Foley’s son, and Axel is the chief of police now in Detroit. I’d do the pilot, show up here and there.”

It is a little more believable that a 50-year-old man would be sitting behind a desk as opposed to chasing criminals on the street, but we don’t know if people would go for a Beverly Hills Cop show without Murphy in a starring role.
On the other hand, Brett Ratner, who was rumored to be directing the fourth installment of the franchise, isn’t giving up on the movie! In a recent interview of his own, he told sources:

“We’re not close, but I’m hoping in the next few years there will be one. Eddie and I are even setting up some more of his ideas. I’m hoping that we have a long, fruitful relationship. We’re both still very young, believe it or not. Eddie’s only 50 years old, so I think we have a little bit of time to come up with a great Beverly Hills Cop.”

Hmm…inneresting. In any case, we can all look forward to more family friendly edgy Eddie Murphy because he’s tired of making kids movies, continuing:

“I don’t have any interest in that right now. There’s really no blueprint, but I’m trying to do some edgy stuff. And I only want to do what I really want to do, otherwise I’m content to sit here and play my guitar all day.”

Whatever he decides to do, we’ll be eagerly waiting! Are U ready for Eddie to get back to his HIGHlarious roots?
