Last night├óΓé¼Γäós Glee reaffirmed that this season is on most definitely on track. As always, the show really triumphs when it tackles important sensitive subjects – religion, sexuality, Britney Spears ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ and last night├óΓé¼Γäós episode about Rachel and Kurt losing their virginity was no exception. From the music to the tone, everything really fell into place to capture the beauty of someone├óΓé¼Γäós first time and send shippers of these two pairings into fangasims.
WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD FROM LAST NIGHT’S EPISODE OF GLEE. DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW OR ARE SAVING YOURSELF TO WATCH IT AT THE RIGHT TIME. (PUN INTENDED)
The First Time kicked off with Rachel and Blaine in rehearsals for the school musical, West Side Story. While their rendition of Tonight leaves Beiste in tears, Artie feels like there is something missing from their performance: passion. As their director, he suggests that these two virgins do the deed to give their roles as Maria and Tony more honesty. The fact that Artie calls them both out on being boring virgins might seem a little harsh to some, but we were bothered more by Lea Michele clutching sheet music. Yeah, right. Like Rachel Berry doesn’t know ALL the words to EVERY song in West Side Story. PLEASE!
Anyway, we learn that the boyfriends are keeping their relationship on hold sexually until Kurt feels more comfortable. It’s not like he hasn’t thought about it (Twi-hard fantasies anyone?), it’s just that Kurt is a romantic and wants to wait. Rachel, on the other hand, decides to commit to her ambition and prepares to go all the way with Finn for the sake of her acting. However, Finn pulls the plug on their romantic evening when he finds this out and Rachel’s left to face her selfishness … again.
Things get complicated for Klaine too when a new man stirs up trouble. The Warblers new lead singer, Sebastian, takes an instant liking to Blaine and he begins to scheme ways to do away with Kurt. His plan takes the three of them to Lima’s only gay bar, Scandals, for Drag Queen Wednesdays. While Sebastian tries to make his move on Blaine, Kurt is met at the bar by a familiar face: his former bully, Dave Karofsky. Having changed schools for his senior year, Karofsky has finally found some peace, even if he hasn’t totally come out yet. He toasts Kurt and himself for taking “baby steps” in becoming the men they want to be. It was a really outstanding, stand–alone scene, made that much better by the sultry sounds of Thelma Houston.
Blaine, drunk as a skunk but still super hot, tries to jump Kurt’s bones in the parking lot of the bar. Kurt rightfully shuts him down, but being drunk, Blaine gets steamed and walks off on him. After their opening night performance and some reflection, the boys realize their time is now and that they shouldn’t let jealously or fear stand in their way. So they go back to Blaine’s house … and do it.
Meanwhile, after a sweet scene with the defunct Abstinence club, Rachel is reminded of how much she really loves Finn and resigns to prove it to him after the show. However, she’s shocked to find him at his house in crisis after learning he won’t be getting a football scholarship like he had planned. Rachel finally proves her love to Finn by putting herself aside to comfort and support the man she loves. And then they do it…
Truthfully, we really hope that the PTC tuned in last night and is eating their words this morning. There was nothing graphic about either of the couple’s first times. Each pair was responsible about protection and if anything, last night’s episode was a perfect catalyst for teens to ask questions about sex and reflect on their own decisions concerning going all the way.
But more so … it was freakin’ shippers dream! Klaine and Finnchel fans, we would not be surprised if you’re all still watching this one on repeat right now!
Few Side Notes:
A) We really would have liked to see Mercedes at least once while Rachel was performing as Maria. We know that wasn’t the focus, but they made such a big deal about it before. Just would’ve liked some closure on that one.
B) If anyone needed to lose “it” this episode, it was The Beiste. She is WELL overdue! But at least she is on her way!!!
C) Who decided to make that Irish kid a Shark? And when is someone going to do something about Puck’s hair?
D) Raise your hand if you caught the mention of April Rhodes – aka Kristen Chenoweth – in this episode!
