More and more celebrities are honoring the late Michelle Trachtenberg.
The Harriet the Spy alum died unexpectedly on Wednesday morning at just 39. According to police sources for ABC News, her mother found her in her NYC apartment. She’d recently had a liver transplant, and it is possible she was experiencing complications. No foul play is suspected. Truly heartbreaking.

Throughout her lengthy Hollywood career, she touched so many lives — and not just on set of her two big series Gossip Girl to Buffy the Vampire Slayer. There are SO many who have fond memories of working with her!
For starters, Kim Cattrall, who starred alongside Michelle in the 2005 Disney film Ice Princess, shared a photo of them on set, writing:
“Rest in peace sweet Michelle
.”
Michelle’s co-star in the 1996 movie Holiday for Love, Melissa Gilbert, also shared a photo from their film, writing:
“Oh Michy…and we lived so close to one another…..my heart aches for your family and all those who loved you so… @michelletrachtenberg #ripsweetgirl”
Kenan Thompson shared a video of them filming together back in the ’90s for Nickelodeon (see HERE), mourning:
“Our first Nick movie star has departed us!! She was my friend and now she rests!! ???????? Check on your people!!!
“
Melissa Joan Hart, who was in Clarissa Explains It All with Michelle in 1992, also shared a video of them from the show, expressing:
“I’m heartbroken to hear of the passing of @michelletrachtenberg!! So young, so talented and so sweet! Here is a fun scene from when she was on #ClarissaExplainsItAll. I think this was about 1992 and the episode was an idea I had about babysitting a total nightmare. But Michelle was nothing like her character and even this young, we got along wonderfully. #gonetoosoon #RIP #GodBlesstheFunnyPeople”
Matilda star Mara Wilson posted a head shot of Michelle on Instagram Stories, saying:
“My heart is breaking for my childhood friend. Your memory will be a blessing, Michelle.”
Halloweentown actress Kimberly J. Brown kept her tribute on Instagram short, sharing a picture of her and Michelle as kids and a broken heart emoji. See the post (below):

Judd Apatow and Leslie Mann’s youngest daughter, Iris Apatow, posted a snap of Michelle in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Like so many of us, the 22-year-old actress is “heartbroken” over the news. She expressed:
“I watched her through every stage of my life. She brought me a lot of joy when things were hard – I’m so heartbroken rest in peace.”
Glee alum Chris Colfer remembered his pal on IG (See HERE). He wrote in the caption of a pic of the star:
“Michelle was the absolute sweetest and one of the most supportive people I knew. I’m so lucky I got to be her friend.”
Kristin Chenoweth honored Michele by posting an old image of them smiling and laughing together, commenting:
“One of the most precious people I’ve ever known. I will never forget you, Michelle.”
And in one of the most heartbreaking tributes came from Harriet the Spy co-star J. Smith-Cameron — more famous for playing Gerri on Succession these days. She recalled working with Michelle on the 1996 film in a statement to People, saying:
“I played Mrs. Welch, Harriet’s mother in Harriet the Spy. Michelle had been on a Nickelodeon show called Adventures of Pete & Pete — but this seemed to be her first lead film role. She was so excited. Her natural ebullient nature was ratcheted up into giddiness as she tried to learn how to handle all that came with that. She was a very charming little girl. Years later we found each other on social media and connected briefly. She was always very warm toward me. I feel very shocked and unsettled to hear of her passing.”
Orange is the New Black alum Matt McGorry expressed his sadness about never getting the chance to reconnect with Michelle before her passing:
“Rest in peace, Michelle. You had so much more life to live. She had a fierceness but also a deep caring and softness with those she trusted. She always stood up for her friends, was incredibly talented and had the darkest sense of humor. She had the spirit of a true New Yorker. Michelle and I were really close but lost touch for quite a while. I was always sure that we’d cross paths again and I was looking forward to meeting as the people we’d grown to become. You will be missed by so many. Love you, Michelle.”
She was so loved… R.I.P.
