This is terrible.
A Rangers fan accidentally fell 20 feet trying to catch a foul ball that was thrown his direction at the game on Thursday, and was later pronounced dead.
There’s video of the sports cast while it happened above, but it’s not graphic. It is a little jarring to see the initial fall, and frustrating to hear the commentators talk about it while being oblivious to the severity of the situation.
“The accident happened in the second inning after Oakland├óΓé¼Γäós Conor Jackson hit a foul ball which Josh Hamilton went after and tossed near the fan. The fan seemingly grabbed the ball at first but fell head first out of the stands.”
That’s so sad. Going to a ball game is about having a good time, not it being dangerous. There’s even reason to believe that was his son there with him.
We hope that if anything comes of this people will learn not to lean over railings for any reason, even a souvenir ball. Maybe this will prompt the parks to put safety netting or raise the rails, too.
Our hearts and thoughts are extended to this poor gentleman’s family.
