Women’s boxing will be brought to the Summer Olympics for the first time in London this summer.
The U.S. is going to have one representative: 22-year-old Marlen Esparza.
Esparza, from Houston, recently defeated Luu Thi Duyen of Vietnam to earn her ticket to the Summer Games.
Two other female U.S. boxers, Quanitta Underwood, 28, and Claressa Shields, 17, were eliminated for the qualifying tournament, the Women’s World Boxing Championships, which were in China.
Though they may still make it into the Olympics if an international commission decides so.
Olympic women’s boxing will feature three weight divisions: featherweight (112 pounds), lightweight (132 pounds) and middleweight (165 pounds).
We really hope she wins the gold!
You go, gurl! Punch those faces!
U.S.A.! U.S.A.! U.S.A.!
