What an amazing story!
Gordon Hardy and his wife Jean lived in sheltered accommodation in Southport on Merseyside. Jean passed away in 2007 and Gordon two years later, in 2009.
In his will, Gordon wanted his estate to be split between three organizations, PDSA, Blue Cross and the Donkey Sanctuary. The truly amazing part is that his estate was ├é┬ú1.4m and no one knew he was a millionaire! The Hardys didn’t even own a television!
Neighbours said they had no idea the couple were millionaires as they lived modestly and did not have a television.
For the years he lived alone, Gordon lived on an extremely modest budget of £20 a month, 9 of which went to pay his electricity bills. That would be the same as living in the US for $17 a month!
Thats not being modest, that’s barely scraping by and they had no problem with it! It seems like Gordon had the plan to donate his estate all along, but to will yourself to live so humbly is truly moving and amazing!
We wish Gordon was still around today – he is the kind of person we would love to meet and learn a lot from!
