It’s well known that climate change has few, if any benefits.
Well one creature who may actually benefit from climate change could be the Wandering Albatross.
The albatross has the largest wingspan of any living bird and it literally spends most of its life in the air.
As the climate warms, wind speeds increase. This means not only can the albatross fly faster and more efficiently, they’re doing better in general.
They’ve been gaining weight and breeding more successfully.
They’ve been studied in the Crozet Islands in the Southern Ocean.
A researcher said:
“Winds have increased overall at the world’s oceans, with some areas being more affected than others, but still the increase is global.
The advantage we have with the Crozet is that we have a long term record of the population parameters, and also the movements of the birds, which is a unique situation.”
So even though climate change isn’t good for everyone, at least it’s not all bad.
