Glee Officially Announces Season 5 Delay In Wake Of Cory Monteith's Death

It’s been a long, mournful week in light of Cory Monteith‘s tragic overdose, but Glee has officially given word on their plans for the series’ fifth season.

Instead of premiering on the originally announced date of September 19, Fox will now kick the series off on September 26 at 9pm ET. Though this is still a delay, we’re sure Gleeks find it bittersweet as some speculation pondered an even later premiere.

In a statement released Friday, the following was also confirmed:

“In light of the tragic passing of beloved Glee cast member Cory Monteith, the series’ executive producers, 20th Century Fox Television and Fox Broadcasting Company have jointly decided to delay the start of production of Glee until early August. No further details are available at this time.”

Without a doubt, Glee will never be the same without Finn. But we’re optimistic in our anticipation of their plans to honor Cory through the show. While reports suggest writers are using old, unseen footage to salute him properly, we’re sure they’ll memorialize him to the best of their ability no matter what.

Slushie cheers to Finn!
