It’s like they always say: Like uncle, like niece!!
That’s a thing people say, right??
Well this weekend, Tiger Woods‘ niece Cheyenne Woods proved that golf skills run in the family as she picked up her first major win at the Austrialian Masters tournament!
The 23-year-old golfer got off to a good start and ended up finishing strong and was excited about the huge victory as she says she hopes it will help her step out of her uncle’s huge shadow:
“This is a huge accomplishment for me… I’ve been pro for two years and, for the majority of it, people just think of me as Tiger Woods’ niece so now I have a game of my own and I have a title now, a win, which is exciting… It’s nice now to say to people that I can play and I’m not just a name. Growing up with the last name of Woods, there’s a lot of expectations and pressure and spotlight on you but I always knew that I was able to win. I always knew I’d be able to compete with these ladies so now it’s kind of a weight off my shoulders because now everybody knows not just me.”
While Cheyenne is clearly hoping to make a name for herself, Tiger couldn’t help but be excited for his niece and congratulated her on Twitter:
