We have to give Stephen Colbert a huge tip o’ the hat for the crumbelievable news that he’ll be succeeding David Letterman as host of The Late Show!
But what will happen to The Colbert Report? And the character version of Stephen Colbert that we’ve come to know and love?
Comedy Central issued a statement today that hinted at the end of the show once Stephen leaves:

“Comedy Central is proud that the incredibly talented Stephen Colbert has been part of our family for nearly two decades. We look forward to the next eight months of the ground-breaking Colbert Report and wish Stephen the very best.├óΓé¼┬¥

We’re not going to lie (since we’re all about truthiness), this news is a little bit sad.
Also, Stephen announced today that we’ll also be forced to say goodbye to his satirical, right winged character:

“I won’t be doing the new show in character, so we’ll all get to find out how much of him was me. I’m looking forward to it.”

While we mourn the loss of such an AH-Mazing (and recently controversial) character, we’ll also be celebrating the success of this HIGHlarious, and genuinely nice comedian!
Congrats Stephen! We know you’ll do wonders over at CBS!
