Gabrielle Union is speaking out about the tragic shooting of 12-year-old Tamir Rice, who was gunned down by police in 2014 while playing with a replica toy gun in a Cleveland park.
As you’re probably aware, the entire case has sparked much debate around the country, and rightfully so.
On Wednesday, the 43-year-old actress (43?!) referred to her own experience as a rape victim and survivor while shutting down people who tried to place blame on Tamir for getting shot.

Dwyane Wade‘s wife — who was raped when she was just 19-years-old while working at a Payless Shoe Source — identified the trend of victim-blaming and absolutely wasn’t having it. She penned:

Wow. What an eye-opening point. No one should ever be blamed for an injustice committed against them.
When one Twitter user asked what Miz Union would have done if she had been in the officer’s shoes, she said:

Another commenter asked the Bring It On star to consider the parents who allowed their child to play with a toy gun “with out its orange tip,” to which she responded:

This is just a tragic situation all around. We love Gabi for using her platform and her own personal experience to hopefully create some very much-needed change.
