Meghan McCain Marks One-Year Anniversary Of John McCain's Death With A Social Media Hiatus

Meghan McCain is paying tribute to her father John McCain one year after his tragic death.

The Arizona senator passed away on August 25, 2018 from stage four brain cancer at the age of 81, and on Saturday, the former The View co-host announced she’s taking a social media hiatus to mark the anniversary of his passing.

In a heartfelt message posted to both Instagram and Twitter, Meghan wrote:

“Last year tomorrow, August 25th was the worst day of my life. I lost my hero. I miss my father every single day, I will for the rest of my life. Grief is omnipresent and relentless. For every single person who has sent prayers, love & support to my family, we are truly grateful.”

The first part of Meghan’s message included a photo of her gently holding her beloved father’s hand, as you can see (below):

The daytime TV host shared a second photo of her and her dad enjoying a private moment while gazing out at a hilly desert — presumably in Arizona where the senator held office.

The 34-year-old used this shot (below) to announce why she’ll be logging offline for a bit as she continues to mourn the loss of Senator McCain.

She penned:

“On this anniversary until his birthday after the 29th I am going to take a break from social media for reflection. The memory of my father’s life continues to guide me today, as it always will. Remember to cherish your loved ones and be grateful for every moment you have with them. I still can’t believe my heart didn’t stop when yours did Dad…”

It’s no secret these two were very close, and throughout this past year, McCain has been very open about coping with grief and loss.

In an interview with Porter published back in February, she revealed:

“It’s horrible. I’m in therapy, I’m in counseling. I’m reading Joan Didion — books and books about grief, doing everything I possibly can. I’m trying to meditate — I’m terrible at it.”

The political TV personality explained her struggles with accepting his absence, adding:

“I wake up groggy sometimes and have this impulse to call him, which I have done… but he’s not answering. I feel like I’ve lost a part of my body, like I’ve had something amputated. I know that sounds dramatic.”

Ugh. So sad.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the only personal loss Meghan’s had to deal with over the last year.

As we reported, in an op-ed published in The New York Times in July, the Dirty Sexy Politics author revealed she had suffered a lost pregnancy, seemingly at some point after her father’s passing.

What a difficult year it’s been, indeed. Our thoughts are with the McCains during this sensitive time.
