This Is Why Adam Levine Is Really Leaving 'The Voice'

Adam Levine

Adam Levine is leaving his longtime post at The Voice, as we reported yesterday — but what hasn’t really been clear until this point is exactly why he’s walking away from the hit singing competition show.
Well, now we know a little bit more about the goings-on behind the scenes over at the popular NBC show, where it turns out that a major format change — and the after-effects of that on the competition itself — only served to push Adam further away from wanting to stick around.

According to a source close to the Maroon 5 frontman, things have been a long time in coming, at least as far as moving on to the next project is concerned.
The insider revealed (below):

“He’s been wanting to move on for a while. They wanted him to stay but he just really wanted to move on. It’s something he’s been talking to [host] Carson [Daly] and the other coaches about for some time.”

Inneresting! So this definitely sounds like it’d been talked about and considered for a while… and so it probably shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to producers as they prepare for next season, you’d think!
Beyond that, specific show changes are what actually forced the 40-year-old musician from his post, with the Live Cross Battles that debuted in April one of the major reasons Levine is moving on.

Sources claim the musician thought that the Live Cross Battles round made the show feel like “the wild west out there now,” especially after the new format caused Levine’s team to take SUCH a huge hit in season 16.
The source opened up on that (below):

“He really didn’t like some of the changes to the format of the show last season, and it’s just time for him to leave. [The show felt like] the wild west out there now. It wouldn’t be surprising if he came back to visit the show though. There’s new music coming soon for him, he’ll be touring and he plans to continue acting. He’s staying busy.”

Wow!
Thankfully, though, Gwen Stefani WILL be back for the next season, so it’s not like Levine is leaving the show high and dry without a capable replacement:

“Adam has always had one of the toughest schedules of the coaches. He’s been ready to move on and also have more time with his family. It’s bittersweet for everyone, but Adam is so excited that Gwen is going to take his chair. She’s beloved by everyone at the show and at NBC.”

Bittersweet, indeed!
