Anderson Cooper Reveals Mom Gloria Vanderbilt’s ‘Bats**t Crazy’ Idea — She Wanted To Be His Surrogate At 85!

This is truly “nutty!”

Anderson Cooper admitted on Thursday night’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert that his late mother Gloria Vanderbilt, who died in 2019 at 95, once wanted to be his surrogate! The journalist revealed that his momma sat him down when she was 85 to share her gynecologist said she was healthy enough to still carry a child! Shocked, he mused on the “kind of nutty” proposition:

“I finally said to her, I was like, ‘Mom, I love you, but even for you, that is just bats**t crazy. That is just nuts.’ That is so weirdly oedipal on a whole new level. That kid would be on the cover of The New York Post for the rest of its life.”

LOLz!! But the artist didn’t take no for an answer — she then provided proof it could happen!

Two years later, the CNN host said he received the strangest letter from his momma. Anderson recalled:

“Then, fast forward two years later, I get a thing in the mail that my mom has sent me… and it’s a newspaper clipping and it’s a photograph, the headline is, ‘Grandmother Bears Child for Son,’ and it’s some woman, I think in Italy who was like 65 or something, or 70. And it’s a photo of her in the labor room in the stirrups.”

The fashion designer had circled the pic and written, “See!” Luckily, Cooper didn’t need to rely on his parent’s help to grow his family. He’s now the proud dad of Wyatt Morgan, 1, whom he shares with his former partner of 10 years, Benjamin Maisani.

But can you imagine if he’d said yes?? That really would be wild! Watch Anderson HIGHlariously recount the surrogacy convo (below)!

Aww! We’re sure Gloria would be happy to know she has a grandson — even if she couldn’t be the one to give birth to him!
