Barilla Tweets An Apology AFTER A Boycott Of Their Pasta Is Trending!

barilla tweets apology after boycott started pasta homophobic comments

We wonder if they know how incredibly silly they look right now.

Yesterday, we told you about the chairman of Barilla pasta, Guido Barilla, making some homophobic comments on a radio station. He issued an apology for hurting people’s feelings, but not for what he said.

So, thankfully, the internet spread the word to boycott the insensitive pasta brand, and, now, Barilla is tweeting an apology with their tails, er, pasta shells, between their legs.

The chairman of Equality Italia, Aurelio Mancuso, made a statement, saying:

“Accepting the invitation of Barilla’s owner to not eat his pasta, we are launching a boycott campaign against all his products.├óΓé¼┬¥

Amen!

This was in response to Guido saying:

“Well, if they like our pasta and our message they will eat it; if they don’t like it and they don’t like what we say they will ├óΓé¼┬ª eat another.”

Your message being exclusion and not letting all people live full lives? Ya, we’ll pass on that thank you very much!

After “boicotta-barilla” started trending on Twitter, the company tweeted:

The craziest part about all of this is that in the interview, Guido wasn’t even asked about what he thought of homosexual families!

He was asked about Laura Boldrini’s, the speaker of the lower house in parliament, comments about changing the stereotype of women in Italy’s ads.

Also, it may come as no surprise that Italy doesn’t recognize same-sex civil unions.

Horrible!

Alessandro Zen, a Left Ecology Freedom party MP, said:

“Here is another example of Italian homophobia. I am taking part in the [Barilla] boycott and invite other MPs ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ at least those who are not resigning ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ to do the same.”

If you stand for equality, and not stereotyping women, then boycott Barilla too.

There are plenty of other pastas in the sea grocery store!
