UPDATE! 9:39 P.M. EST: Freeform says Famous In Love is NOT canceled! The network told EW on Tuesday:
“No decision has been made at this time.”
Every rose has its thorn. And every show has its Bella Thorne?
Famous In Love is the latest casualty in a season of surprising cancelations. But scuttlebutt says it wasn’t just the declining viewership that tipped the scales against the drama.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Freeform asked Hulu to pitch in more of the show’s budget, but the streaming partner read the tealeaves and declined, giving the network a tough choice.
There were also reports of multiple clashes between Bella and showrunner I. Marlene King — largely due to the star’s “diva-like behavior” on set.
In other circumstances a network might side with the star in this kind of dispute, but considering she gave them their biggest hit ever in Pretty Little Liars, King is queen at Freeform — which decided Bella’s star vehicle wasn’t worth the trouble.
Nor apparently was it worth a phone call, as Bella tweeted after learning the bad news ON THE INTERNET:
