The verdict is in: Beyoncé’s new visual album Black Is King is, well… king!
As you’re likely aware, the superstar’s new visual album premiered on Disney+ on Friday about a year after the release of the Lion King remake. The hotly-anticipated visual album is based on the music from Bey’s soundtrack to the animated film, The Lion King: The Gift. It includes full-length videos for tracks like My Power, Brown Skin Girl, Mood 4 Eva, and Already (below), and features the likes of Childish Gambino, Kendrick Lamar, Pharrell, JAY-Z, and a little newcomer named Blue Ivy Carter.
In a press release, Disney+ explained that Black is King reimagines the lessons from the film for “today’s young kings and queens in search of their own crowns” and is a “celebratory memoir for the world on the black experience” — and, naturally, no one was celebrating the 85-minute optical feast more than The Beyhive.

Fans and viewers took to Twitter on Friday to share enthusiastic reactions to the new album; while all eyes were obviously on ‘Yonce, the album’s real showstopper was pop culture icon Blue Ivy — who, btw, won her first BET Award on Sunday for her work on Brown Skin Girl.

Other fans, meanwhile, were more focused on the songs, the vibrant cinematography, the locations, Bey’s lewks, and of course, the celebration of Black (and Brown) culture. Ch-ch-check out more responses (below):
“Just when I think I couldn’t love Beyoncé more, she’s put dark-skinned Indian women and girls in the video for BROWN SKIN GIRL… Doing more for representation for dark-skinned South Asian women than most Bollywood celebrities who prefer to promote skin lightening #BlackIsKing”
“There are literally so many South African entertainers in #BlackIsKing. We should all be so proud of them. It’s honestly mind blowing.”
“I wish I had a visual like #BlackIsKing in my youth. I’m tearing up thinking about how these images and words will affect the dark-skinned girls and boys around the world who are constantly “othered.” Like I was.”
“Black is King incorporates I think [everything] that could be considered art ever…music fashion photography videography portraiture writing its all there and *chef’s kiss*”
“the visuals, the styling, the hair. it’s everything for me. #BlackIsKing”
