Britney Spears Issues A Cease & Desist To Jamie Lynn!!!

britney spears, jamie lynn spears : britney issues cease and desist over memoir

This family feud has kicked up a notch!

We all know Britney Spears and her sister Jamie Lynn Spears have been at odds for a while now – even before the latter’s memoir, Things I Should Have Said, came out. But the book release and the promo tour have made matters even worse, and the pop star has posted some pretty scathing responses to her little sister’s stories.

Now, the bad blood has taken a turn into legal territory. The Stronger artist’s lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, issued a cease-and-desist letter to Jamie Lynn over the “potentially unlawful and defamatory” things that the actress has been saying about her sis. The letter read:

“We write with some hesitation because the last thing Britney wants is to bring more attention to your ill-timed book and its misleading or outrageous claims about her. Although Britney has not read and does not intend to read your book, she and millions of her fans were shocked to see how you have exploited her for monetary gain. She will not tolerate it, nor should she.”

It continued:

“You of all people know the abuse and wrongdoing Britney had to endure during the conservatorship, after initially growing up with a ‘ruinous,’ alcoholic father. In fact, your own book reportedly states that your father ‘spent most of my life in that cycle of ruinous behavior. His bouts of drinking caused me periods of torment and sorrow.’ As I have previously stated, having endured a 13-year conservatorship that stripped her of civil rights and fundamental liberties, Britney will no longer be bullied by her father or anyone else.”

Damn! Good for Britney!

Rosengart observed:

“Britney was the family’s breadwinner and she also otherwise supported you. Publicly airing false or fantastical grievances is wrong, especially when designed to sell books. It is also potentially unlawful and defamatory.”

He concluded:

“Michelle Obama famously said, ‘when they go low, we go high,’ and to Britney’s great credit, that is exactly what Britney is going to do, for the time being. You recently reportedly stated that the book was ‘not about her.’ She takes you at your word and we, therefore, demand that you cease and desist from referencing Britney derogatorily during your promotional campaign. If you fail to do so or defame her, Britney will be forced to consider and take all appropriate legal action.”

Hoo boy. Brit really means business!

According to a source for Page Six, the Nickelodeon alum hadn’t even received the letter herself (which is dated January 17) before finding out about it in the press… which probably won’t help matters, but hey, that bridge is already going up in flames.

We’re not sure what else the 30-year-old has on the docket for her “promotional campaign,” as she reportedly won’t be doing a book tour. She did already record the second part of her Call Her Daddy interview, which is due out on Wednesday, so she may be in trouble depending on what she said about the singer in there…

Honestly, we’re pretty shocked to see how quickly this has all escalated! We hope with this legal threat on the table, the back-and-forth can finally end peacefully for everyone.
