Kesha Faces Expanded Defamation Lawsuit From Dr. Luke

‘Let’s Ruin Him’

Kesha Faces Expanding Defamation Lawsuit Against Dr. Luke!

Kesha’s legal battle with Dr. Luke is far from over.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a judge decided on Friday to authorize an “aggressive expansion” of the music mogul’s defamation lawsuit against the Tik Tok singer. Now, the songstress could potentially be found culpable for how she and her reps discussed the civil suit she filed 2014 alleging that Luke raped and abused her while they were working together.

The new expansion targets Kesha for dozens of statements her lawyers made around the time that she filed the lawsuit. THR notes this is unusual because “statements made by lawyers in the course of litigation are often deemed privileged and non-actionable.”

But that could all change thanks to New York Supreme Court Justice Jennifer Schecter’s ruling.

In the suit, Luke’s team claims to have evidence that the allegations against the producer were timed to cause maximum damage to his career. In an email exchange from May 2012, for example, Kesha’s manager Ken Levitan told colleagues the singer “beyond despises Luke.”

To that, Irving Azoff, a powerful player in the music industry, responded:

“Get me in the mix. I will ruin him.”

Levitan later replied:

“We need the album done and its close…there are huge hits on it…let’s ruin him after he delivers.”

The plot to smear Luke in the press continued with the involvement of Sunshine Sachs, which stated in a memo:

“Our goal is to help extricate CLIENT K from her current professional relationship with PERSON L by inciting a deluge of negative media attention and public pressure on the basis of the horrific personal abuses presented in the lawsuit.”

The PR firm reportedly shared an advance copy of the lawsuit with TMZ before it was filed by Kesha’s then-attorney Mark Geragos. TMZ also allowed the publicist to see the story before it was published, despite such a tactic being ethically frowned upon by journalists.

After reviewing all the evidence, Justice Schecter wrote it could possibly be concluded that “the California complaint was a sham maliciously filed soley to defame plaintiffs as part of Kesha’s alleged campaign to destroy Gottwald as leverage to renegotiate her contracts.”

Kesha is contractually obligated to work on two more albums under Dr. Luke’s Kemosabe Records. We’ll keep you updated on whether or not this case makes it to trial.

Katy Perry has denied having any type of intimate exchange — consensual or otherwise — with controversial music producer Dr. Luke.

The Swish Swish singer was deposed about that back in July 2017 as part of Dr. Luke’s ongoing legal battle against Kesha, and now, that deposition has been partially unsealed with the testimony made publicly available.

In it, the 33-year-old Perry categorically denies all questions about whether the music producer ever raped or sexually assaulted her, which had been a major point of contention in Kesha’s protracted legal battle against the music producer.

Here’s a look at the key portion of the publicly available deposition — with parts redacted, but large chunks of Perry’s key testimony about the issue (below):

Perry, clearly, is very adamant that there was no contact in any manner like that between her and Dr. Luke.

Dr. Luke’s Legal Team Releases ANOTHER Scathing New Statement In Ongoing Kesha Back-And-Forth Over Alleged Katy Perry Rape

no title

There’s been quite a bit of back-and-forth flying around between Dr. Luke and Kesha‘s respective legal teams and spokespeople over the last few days, particularly centered around whether or not the producer allegedly raped Katy Perry — and, now, whether or not Kesha and/or Lady GaGa allegedly heard about that alleged incident from a major music label CEO.

Both sides have dug in to their respective positions and seem unwilling to budge even an inch in either direction, with Kesha doubling down on the music label CEO claim from Friday evening, and Dr. Luke denying everything altogether.

The ongoing legal battle between Kesha and Dr. Luke is getting more and more heated by the day — and as we’ve been reporting, it now involves some very serious rape and sexual assault allegations against the music producer for acts allegedly committed against Katy Perry.

As you’ll remember, Kesha and Lady GaGa had apparently been texting about the alleged sexual assault on Perry — something the public didn’t know until Dr. Luke’s legal team made that text public after receiving it in private during discovery as part of their ongoing legal battle against Kesha.

Well, now, Kesha’s legal team has responded to Dr. Luke’s legal team’s own response to the allegations, and if anything, the Tik Tok singer’s team is seriously doubling down — and involving MORE people who apparently knew about the alleged sexual assault!

In a statement released this afternoon, Kesha’s legal team claims an unnamed CEO “of a major record label” was the one who told both Kesha and GaGa about the alleged rape (below): (more…)

UPDATE 6:50 P.M. EST: Dr. Luke’s legal team responded to the story going public with an official statement declaring Katy Perry not only never accused him — she exculpated him:

“Katy Perry herself confirmed that Dr. Luke did not rape her. Kesha’s accusation to the contrary – just like her other outrageous lies about Dr. Luke – is baseless and irresponsible, and it is disrespectful to both Katy Perry and Dr. Luke. In his defamation lawsuit against Kesha, Dr. Luke seeks damages for the harm caused by these malicious falsehoods.”

Holy shit.

For years now all of Kesha‘s accusations against Dr. Luke have been out in the open — or so we thought.

Thanks to new legal docs obtained by The Blast, we now know the music producer (whose real name is Lukasz Gottwald) is specifically denying one more thing we’d never heard — the claim he raped Katy Perry!

UPDATE 4:47 P.M. EST: The lawyers behind Dr. Luke (AKA Lukasz Sebastian Gottwald) have released the following statement:

“Kesha’s false accusations have caused tremendous damage to Dr. Luke, his family and his businesses. Kesha’s recent court filing misstates and misrepresents an expert accountant’s calculations of certain revenue that Mr. Gottwald has lost as a result of Kesha’s false accusations. The ultimate amount of Dr. Luke’s damages is for a jury to decide.”

We’ll continue to keep you updated.

The ongoing legal battle between Kesha and Dr. Luke just ballooned into BIG numbers!

In legal docs obtained by The Blast, the producer is now claiming a whopping $50 million in damages from the singer who accused him of abuse.

Dr. Luke says he would have made $29.9 million in royalties and $8.7 million from co-writing fees if Kesha hadn’t made her claims.

He also included $10.2 mil from his potential future work with Katy Perry, who kicked him to the curb before making Witness.

Um, is that legally Kesha’s fault though? Katy easily could have made her own decision after listening to someone else’s story, right? Like, say, Kelly Clarkson, who says she willingly left millions of dollars on the table just to avoid him?

Kesha herself filed a similar legal response; she argued those inflated numbers are based on his past years of hits with top performers, whom she says he should not have expected to be able to get.

We’ll just have to see how the court rules.
