If you were frustrated by Chris Pratt’s post about seeing “both sides” of the election, buckle up to hear about his reaction to the backlash.
A few days before the presidential election on Tuesday, the Guardians of the Galaxy star spoke out on his mother-in-law Maria Shriver’s Sunday Paper site about seeing “both sides.” Despite the religious views he’s made clear over the past several years, and how that demo has firmly sided with Donald Trump, it wasn’t an endorsement for the convicted felon. It wasn’t one for Kamala Harris, either. To really understand how infuriating his essay was, read about it HERE. But for a quick rundown, he compared the election — one where basic human and constitutional rights are on the line for women, immigrants, LGBTQ+ folk, POC, and pretty much anyone who isn’t a rich white man in the country — to sports. In part, he wrote:
“… Losing is part of the game. I feel as though we live in a time now when so many people have yet to learn that lesson. Sometimes your team doesn’t win. The 2024 presidential election is three days away as I write this. The biggest game of all time approaches. Team Red versus Team Blue. A rematch for the ages. A showdown four years in the making. It’s giving UFC 3Million energy. I write this now because about half of the voting population is going to be incredibly disappointed on November 6th. But for me, the question is not, ‘Did your candidate win or lose?’ but rather, ‘Will you wake up the next morning and help an old lady move?’ If we become too paralyzed by defeat or too pompous in victory, allegiance to our ‘team’ can blind us to the fact that we are fellow countrymen.”
Except, THIS ISN’T A F**KING GAME. And Chris’ words just made his clear lack of a grasp on reality as the rich, white man — who will be unscathed by the election results — all the more clear. But fans were FURIOUS, to say the least, and came for him on social media:
“this clown lmao human rights are on the line and he has the audacity to say this crap”
“Hard pass. I am not checking in with people that voted against me having rights over my body and want to enslave me.”
“Not with these stakes.”
“Banal is his middle name.”
So you’d think that with some days to think critically about how out of touch his opinion was, he’d come around and realize where he went wrong. But he didn’t! On Wednesday, an insider told DailyMail.com:
“Chris is a very open person and honest person. He doesn’t realize why his op-ed has rubbed people up the wrong way. He is genuine in nature even if it appears that he is actually oblivious to others feelings. He’s surprised by the reaction to his op-ed. He wanted people to talk about it and to make an impact. He wanted to unite people, but all he has done is unite people against him. He has been taken back.”
He DOESN’T REALIZE?? Even after people literally explained to him why?! Wow. That privilege he benefits from must be extremely opaque, because WTF?
As far as how his in-laws view it, the source explained:
“Maria and Arnold [Schwarzenegger] respect him and know the man that he is. They don’t agree with all of his views, but it isn’t a deal breaker because they, along with everyone else he is friends with, know that he doesn’t intend to hurt anyone’s feelings or make them think a certain way.”
Arnold, a registered Republican, came out in support of Kamala days before the election because HE knew what was at stake. But according to the insider, neither he nor Chris intend to discuss the election results. However, the Terminator star is “always there for advice if Chris ever asks or needs it.” Which he clearly needs!
The source finished off:
“Arnold, though a Republican, stands for Kamala and he has his own reasons for that. Whomever Chris is voting for is his own decision and Arnold is going to accept it. He just wants Chris to be the man he needs to be for his children and his daughter.”
