While most of Hollywood has had a week to mourn the loss Robin Williams, one of his late night TV friends wasn’t so lucky.
David Letterman was not taping new episodes of his show last week when the news broke about Robin’s suicide. So, it wasn’t until last night’s episode of The Late Show that David was finally able to publicly grieve and remember his friend.
The 67-year-old talk show host sat at his desk and just spoke about his first memories of Robin being a star from the start, and how Robin even got David a small role on Mork & Mindy before he was really famous.
The latter part of the clip featured a montage of highlights from the almost 50 times that David had interviewed Robin, and the two are laughing uncontrollably in every one.
David remembered his friend, saying:

“People were drawn to him because of this electricity, this whatever-it-was that he radiated that propelled him and powered him.
Beyond being a very talented man and a good friend and a gentleman, I am sorry, I ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ like everybody else ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ had no idea that the man was in pain and that the man was suffering.”

Having teared up over the montage, David closed out the tribute with a simple, yet heartbreaking, “What a guy.”
Ch-ch-check out David’s final honor to Robin! (below)
